Robert Pouliot, the long-time music director of Virginia's
City Of Fairfax Band, has retired after 29 years on the podium. It's the end of an era -- a fabulous era.
Bob Poiliot's final concert as director was performed the evening of May 13, 2023, in Fairfax VA. A video of his
finale with Fairfax Band is on U-Tube.
Of note in a small way is that the scheduled master of ceremonies for the concert bowed out on account of illness. (He's OK now.) That morning, he emailed me saying he couldn't be M.C. and informing me that the M.C. role for the concert had therefore fallen to me. He knew that I had been M.C. before at a bunch of summertime band concerts, also for a number of performances by
The Cathedral Brass and the old Potomac Brass Quintet (Of Virginia). Fortunately, he attached the M.C. script he had prepared, so all I had to do was read it aloud; I didn't have to write anything. I closed the loop with Bob Pouliot via emai, to let him know I would be prepared that evening to announce as well as to play as part of the band. If you tune in to the U-Tube video, the old guy you will see & hear at the lectern is yours truly,
AwayWeGo.

The special committee at work searching for a new music director has already lined up 3 outstanding candidates, so band members have reason for optimism about the future.
