Four for me. Could have been two. Or three. It's all about the lucky letter guesses.

Three for me as well. Got the first two letters, then the first three. It was the only word I could think of that fit after that.

I got 2 letters in correct position with my slightly unusual first word, which I don’t remember being used before, still took me four to solve it.
As my mind was wandering, wondering which word to open with, I decided I wanted to find a word that ended with PT. CRYPT popped into my head and the R and T are in correct position. I thought of several words to try next, including BRUNT, FRONT, GREAT, GRANT and FRUIT. The 3rd letter had to be a vowel and BRUNT had been the first word I thought of so I went with it. Ok, the U is in 4th position and the middle letter has to be an O as I can’t think of any words that would have and A, I or E there. I think of TROUT first but the T doesn’t fit. GROUT is all that’s left. I think.

Back after a week and a half away. Somewhat fuzzy as a muddled my way through, but made it into the three crowd.

Checking in with another three ....

Pretty straightforward today. As with DUVET a few days ago, I figured there was probably a second vowel in position 1 or 2, and TOUCH investigated O and U, while hitting three common consonants.

After guess 2, the solution needed to be xOTER, and VOTER was the only word I could come up with that fit.

Also a four.
As I was perusing the patio, looking at the plants with their bright colored PETALs, I realized that was a good starter word. It yielded an E and a T in the middle position. I wanted to check and see if the E began the word and also check for an R. ENTRY served the purpose and added an R out of position. After guess 2, E must go in position 4 or 5 and the R can be the last letter so I want to check the pattern, xxTER. As I check my keyboard for possibilities, I see that OUTER works try it. It confirms the TER at the end and the O can only go in 2nd position, leaving me with xOTER. As TR said a couple posts up, V is all that works, VOTER.
