A miraculous 4....I was hard pressed to come up with guesses that didn't include used r/o letters. Also in Europe now, so could get puzzle extra early when I can't sleep

A five but I’m good with it. Tough word and I thought all of my guesses were good.
I went for some of the more common consonants with my starter, THUMP. U and T both out of position. I decided to try them at the end with SCOUT and got the T correct. I thought it would be very Wordle-like to have the U first so I tried UNFIT. I outsmarted myself. So, by process of elimination, U is in second position, xUxxT. That brings the Q in play, so I try QUART. Nope. As I scan the keyboard trying different letters in first position, I realize that the V would work with the D to spell DUVET. Tough but fun.

Three

For guess 2, I wanted to put the D in a new location. And with E in position 4, it's very likely that the word contains another vowel. So I also wanted to look for O and U.

DOUBT fit those needs, and left DUVET as the only option.

A tough 5 for me today.

I’ll join the chorus of fours.
Since daylight, I’ve been watching numerous airplanes GLIDE across the sky leaving their contrails over northeast Florida as they fly north. I didn’t want to use PLANE and FLIGHT is too many letters so I actually had to think of a synonym which is how I came up with GLIDE. Got the I and D out of position. I decided to move the ID to the end with AVOID and got them correctly positioned, plus added an A. I went with BRAID next and got the A in position, leaving me with xxAID. The only word I could think of with my remaining letters was STAID and it worked.

A break from my run of fives.

After guess 1, I was looking to put A, I and D in new positions. S and T are two of the most common consonants, so STAID looked like a good second guess.

Got lucky. I wasn't expecting STAID to be right, just trying to home in on the solution.
