I’ll join you Sandi.
The overcast sky and Joni Mitchell song in my head led me to open with the singular CLOUD this morning since the plural wouldn’t fit. Found a C. I went with TRACE next, got the C in correct position and added an A and R. I thought the ending letter had to be H or Y. I went with H and PARCH (instead of MARCH). I was left with RAxCH. RANCH was the only option.

An uneventful 4 today.

Five. I was going to file a protest until I realized I had made a careless mistake.
DW and I are going to Fogo de Chao today for my Father’s Day meal so, of course, STEAK is at the forefront of my thoughts. Got the starting S. Trying to find consonants moreso than vowels, I thought SWORD with the rare W was a good option. I was wrong. Next, I went for double L’s with SPILL. Only one L in fourth position. Of course, I completely missed the fact that a second L had been ruled out and tried it again. :wall:SULLY ruled out all vowels except Y. So, there had to be two Y’s. I almost made the same mistake for the third time as I first thought of SLYLY. Fortunately, I realized my error and kept looking until I saw SHYLY. Tough word. Now, let’s eat some steak!

Another four. Note in spoiler.

After my third entry, I was out of vowels to put in the middle slots except for another "y.". That left only one possibility.

Yep - four. Tricky word. :D

SIX - a lesson to not ever be too complacent (with my fours, lol)
I wasn't sure if MAZOO was a word or not (it isn't) - but didn't check til my KAZOO was a successful. Way too exciting for a Monday morning. I thought my steak may be at it's end. More coffee now.

Five. After my third entry and the letters that I had eliminated, I was pretty desperate to find any word that would fit.

Five.
It’s a BALMY morning here in northeast Florida. I start with an A in second position. Next, I try CARVE and learn the word doesn’t end in E. I decide to try the other vowels with PIOUS and come up with an O that’s out of position. After a few minutes, I realize that my options are actually very limited due to the letters I’ve already eliminated. The two words most prominent in my head are WAHOO and KAZOO. I try them in that order and strike the right note with KAZOO. Tough one for a Monday.
