Someone pointed out to me a very strange phenomenon: If you google any three-digit number with the words "new cases" after it, it's amazing how many articles will turn up
to support that number. Try it. Keep changing the three-digit number to any number and there seems to be a story somewhere about it.

I just tried "624 new cases" and found several stories. Then I changed it to "642 new cases" and got more stories. It just seems strange to me. I've tried lots of numbers and
there always seems to be a story with all those numbers somewhere.

It's been my experience that I can find something to prove any point I am trying to make. Also, I can find something to disprove anything.

Just to quote @Cornell : <<Queue the "conspiracy theory" comments>>!

I believe numbers are made up, especially after seeing that current cases are counted sometimes X 15. So if you are in the hospital, they test you daily before releasing you. Each and every test you have is counted in the numbers as a new positive case. That is what is really going on. So one person with Covid can have many tests, and each is counted as a new case. I must watch different news from other people here on TUG.

The hysteria is outrageous, and I know I will be moderated because I don't agree with 75% of the people on TUG.

Now to be useful here for a moment, part of this will have to do with the specifics of your search and the Google search options chosen.

Try changing to this

+624 +new +cases

what you are describing is that most people don’t understand how search engines work, adding plus forces it to find all 3 parameters.

Just remember:

What is right is not always popular....
And what is popular is not always right!

let me throw this out there since its going to get moderated, this is how I feel about all these silly bickering covid threads.

It is a function of how wide ranging any Google search is for any topic.

I entered "624 camry" and received a long list of results. I changed it to "642 camry" and received a different list of results. I entered "1002 camry" and received a list of results different from the other two searches.

The phenomenon has nothing specifically to do with "Covid" or "new cases."

I agree with some other posters, it could be the start of a deep state conspiracy ;):poop:

or google "strange phenomenon: If you google any three-digit number with the words "new cases" "
you will be taken to a "deeper" forum ......... o_Oo_O for a mathematical explanation !

Two points:

1) Of all the current TUG threads, why did you choose to drop this pearl of wisdom here?

2) If you're going there anyway, let's jump in with both feet!

I see Brett is back in form.....

I do not find it odd actually because of the media's obsession to report every detail that sometimes does not have any practical meaning. In the last 4 months there have been millions of unique articles, and of course somewhere in the world there were X number of new cases that day. Why was it important then, why is it important now? Not very important but it has contributed to the obsession and fear.

He is also using again a certain emoji. I guess it was very hard to make a point without it.

Obsession - fear -
or looking at 24/7 cable news shows and fearing the deep state conspiracies !
or other unmoderated forums ;)

Now see, you have dragged a moderator to the dark side.

Karen, you may be looked down upon by that group.

@bbodb1 Can I be right & popular?

** edited to clarify so it's NOT POLITICAL: "right" as in correct; not political persuasion :D :D :D :D :D :D
if you think about it, your edit may make it more political
