2023 HGVC Black Friday deals coming 11/21

Seems like superfluous inventory that will be shuttered at some point.
I don't think so. It includes a lot of inventory at places like Cabo Azul. I haven't looked at the other points charts, but a unit there costs the same in the ultra low season (i.e., August or September) as it does in the high season when everyone up north wants to go there. The only way to effectively manage inventory and generate any usage in the shoulder and low seasons given that allocation of points is by having promotional discounts to adjust what the costs are.

It does strike me as gaming the system to a great extent on the part of the developer because it provides them way more inventory to sell than they reasonably have if they sell it as points rather than weeks, which I believe is the case. They likely retained a large proportion of the ownership in order to be able to make bulk deposits in exchange systems or The Club to generate new sales leads. The discounts would result in an inability to use the excess ownership fraction to some extent.

I just booked a week in Italy. I have to use the stupid points, so what the hell. I will go alone if I have to! I have never been to Italy and I'm getting old!

Seems most if not all of these dates are during HGV off season or at least when most people don't go.

Perfect way to unload inventory - I'd wish that HGV would had included some dates during summer time as well.
That is true. But I booked Italy in March which is supposed to be nice. I don''t care about the weather being perfect. I've never seen Italy and I have to use my points so why not?

LOL a Sun-Fri stay at an Elara bHC quad studio is still more than 4,000 points after the 40% discount.

I rebooked a reservation for a friend of mine using the modify reservation function, but the new reservation seems to have deleted my guest info from the guest certificate. I guess I’ll have to call into the office but hope they don’t charge me for another guest certificate.

We are heading to KingsLand in early January. looks like we can save almost 9000 points for our reservation. This is within 60 days, so i can't change the reservation, but since i purchased the points protection, i should be able to cancel and rebook, though pretty sure that will require new reservation fees.

In the Worldmark System any changes to the Booking with a Guest Certificate cancels the original Guest Certificate and costs a new Guest Certificate. That is why I do not add a Guest Name and use a Guest Certificate until the last minute.

Is that true here at HGVC too? I must have missed that in the terms.

I certainly wouldn't expect that it would, but not sure that I ever have done that either.

I don't think so. Just call member services and explain.
Please report back.

I agree but it won't hurt to call and explain that you would like to take advantage of the black friday sale but unable to change your reservation.
Maybe someone can change it due to the sale. Worst case, they say no ;)

Sunday is your killer.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights require twice as many points as weekday nights (Monday through Thursday).

I did call, and they had to cancel and rebook. I was expecting to pay all the fees again, but the agent was nice and waived the reservation fee 'due to the holiday". He was unable to waive the fee for points protection, so i did pay for that that again. (Due to some family situation, i like adding the protection).

All in all, i came away happy and saved 30% or almost 9K in points.

The Friday and Saturday I get, the Sunday never made sense, as Sundays are usually the days people are filing out of the destination locations. Why should Sunday night cost as much as Friday and Saturday?

No idea but they're not the only timeshare system that has higher point requirements on Sunday (see tables below).
Both Marriott and Disney have a higher point requirement for Friday and Saturday nights.

Vistana broke their week into three groups: Mon/Tues/Wed vs Thu/Sun vs Fri/Sat (see table below).

Was able to book a 1BR in NYC over a weekend without feeling the pain of the weekend points. Fantastic!

NOTE: This HGVC resort is in a remote area outside of town. No onsite restaurant.

Let's say that I make a booking to take advantage of this HGVC Black Friday deal. What will happen if I need to adjust this reservation by reducing the number of days after 11/28/23? (ie. will the points adjust back to the normal values)

Yes.

Well with 50-60 degrees it can be rather cold in March just remember to pack warm clothes.

Thanks for sharing this post. I ended up booking Hawaii at 2 locations for January and February. I do love a good sale.
