Is Club Open Season Rental very useful?

open Season can be hard to use, however I can recommend RCI Extra Vacations for some absolute steals. Using my generic RCI account (I have a generic timeshare so I don’t waste my HGVC points on RCI exchanges) I was able to book Central @ 5th as an Extra Vacation 2 months in advance for only $950 for a week in September with no resort fees listed.

Depending on your unit type and MF/pt, that may be more than the cost of points. Often, a week in studio in NYC via RCI is 3,840 points. If your MF/pt is 0.10, for example, then that is $384 for the week.

That also depends specifically on exchange inventory being available, as this was inventory that was in Extra Vacations only and not exchange inventory.

That is a good point. I don't know the difference in those but, I always assumed, that the cash deals where the same inventory just getting closer to the use date so trying to ensure they get rented out.

Given the exchange rates I’ve seen, there are a lot of RCI resorts that will put Developer Inventory into Extra Vacations, but restrict exchanges just to the inventory assigned for exchanging.

I don’t see any Extra Vacations in RCI right now so it must be very rare. Plenty of exchange for Central 5th but it’s Jan to April 2026.

Guess RCI inventory is still very limited compared to HGVC even with a non-home resort access.

RCI is overflowing with extra vacations in the overbuilt areas.

Is it true that resale deeds are restricted in Open Season booking by any means? Got this language from Hilton during transfer:

Persons who acquire their ownership interest from the resale market may receive limited Club benefits, including, but not limited to, restrictions on the ability to convert ClubPoints into Hilton Honors points on an every use year basis and on the use of Open Season rental benefits.

No. We are all resale and have access to OS plus, since we are Elite Premier, via resale, we get a 30% discount on it.

That is in the rules to give them options but never implemented. Resale owners and retail owners have exactly the same ownership and use the HGVC and Hilton Club systems the same.

Resale owners pay the same annual Club Fee as retail owners and therefore deserve the same benefits.

What transfer documents did you see this on? It certainly wasn't on my Estoppel or Deed.

You can live in Orlando 52 weeks per year by just using RCI last call. Not always Hilton quality, but always available. You may need to jump between resorts now and then.

I've used it for a few short stays in Orlando. An HGVC 1 BR in OS was less than a studio at a Marriott Vacation Club. And, the new MVC $25/night parking fee made the OS HGVC 1Br even more attractive.

Really? $25/night parking fee for II MVC getaways and exchanges? That's no fun. For off-season MVC can be had on ACs for exchange fees only

The $25 fee would be for Marriott reservations booked through Marriott.com or other cash type stays. Not for getaways or exchanges.

Yeah ok I will still take MVC over Hilton then.

Looks like the District contract can book open season at Central 5th only, but not other NYC resorts.

I’ve looked at OS the last couple months and haven’t really many openings anywhere other than vegas

Hawaii has plenty of inventory and NYC has some weekend availability that I am looking for. HGVC has limited locations anyway but in those locations, the availabilty isn't as bad as some points system like DVC.

People have reported the District, Quin, and Central on 5th owners being able to book open season at each other’s resorts every so often when HGV wanted to sell excess inventory.

It’s just never been there for the dates I wanted 😃

I recently saw a bunch of OS availability appear at Liberty Place in the days leading up to our reservations (I had one booked with points and the other with cash).

I learned the very important lesson that one should modify your points reservation to another resort at which you will never want to stay before canceling!
