Amex Hilton Changes

I'm not really sure what went wrong there. Other than it taking a long time, it seemed to work out. It probably would have taken a long time had they wanted to pay in $50 increments with multiple credit cards. There is a cost of convenience and time when saving money with these kinds of things.

Any DPs for AMEX 14x Aspire at The Modern Waikiki and KBC?

Also Aspire Resort Credits? The Modern and KBC are not listed on Hilton.com (but Surpass would work AFAIK)

another great use of FNCs: college move in day. $600 for a Homewood?

Actually straight points were even better: 50,000.
Also college graduation day. Ames Iowa (Iowa state university) $550 for a Hilton garden inn.

Nice waves. Going for a dip? Wear a long chain attached to the building ... and a neck brace
It’s not that rough in our plunge pool and there’s room to set your drinks. Plus room for a hummingbird bath….

Did a bit of research on the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos; a portion of it was sold as fractional ownership of 5 weeks in 3 or 4 BR villas that could be split up into 5 weeks in a 2 or 3 BR villa and another 5 weeks in a 1 BR casita. They are termed 1/8 fractionals, which leaves plenty of extra weeks for maintenance or rental through the hotel side of things. They were sold as "the resort at Pedrigal" but the website is no longer active. No idea what the fees are but I've seen availability in several of the sizes in ThirdHome and a couple listed for resale on the interests ($450K for one 3 BR and $550K for one 4 BR). They go pretty quickly when they show up there and are generally not very far before check in - I suspect owners do better renting them. Have to try to get one sometime.

We really like it there and had no complaints about the property so surprised that they are renovating

We also stayed at the Waldorf Park City resort. We received an upgrade to a spacious two-bedroom bi-level suite. Interestingly, there was an owner living next door. He informed us that he had purchased the property approximately 10 years ago and primarily generates income by renting it out to the hotel throughout the year and stays during the summer.

Does anyone ever surf in front of those resorts along that stretch of coast?
The south coast of the Cabo peninsula is a no swim zone. After the high tide subsides, a 20-person team comes out to dig out the sand away from the beach wall. I saw no one in the ocean from the WA to the Grand Solmar on my daily walks. There is a shuttle from the WA to a nearby beach.

I was warned by a friend who lives in Cabo … don’t swim anywhere near WA. Plenty of drownings recorded in the area. I certainly wouldn’t call any of it “ugly”. The whales loved it while we were there.

One reason that my wife isn't very interested in returning. Nice property but no swimming. That are other swimmable beaches on the gulf side but very ok water. We like swimmable beach locations

HGVC La Pacifica has a swimmable beach. The water was cold in Feb. saw people swimming.
I am not sure it actually warms up though. We were there last summer and still cold water. Cabo Azul beach isn't swimmable either. We did the snorkeling trip to the other side and in UNESCO marine area. It was fun but wouldn't do it again. I guess that I am spoiled with diving/snorkeling/swimming in SE Asia....80+ degree water, 100+ feet viz, and amazing reefs with tons of color... I received my PADI open water cert in the Philippines many many years ago and my American dive friends there told me that I was spoiled and didn't even know it yet compared to diving anywhere around the US/Caribbean....and yep, we have dived many places since then and doesn't compare. Florida, meh,...Caribbean locations decent but not the same. I do want to dive Bonaire though..that is on my list.

Yup ... we dove in Grand Cayman ... meh, except for Stingray City and the nurse sharks which is unique in itself. Belize was fine. We saw sharks and manatees and the reefs were decent. Florida ... wreck dives were fun but reefs were meh, except we did see the manatees in Crystal River which was awesome. Hawaii, meh, except the night time manta ray dives were fantastic and plenty of turtles. So far the best diving we have been to is Sipadan Island, Sabah, East Malaysia. Absolutely spectacular. And we always loved The Channel Islands in California especially the kelp forests, sea lions, electric and all sorts of rays and the wreck dives. But it's cold water and one needs a thick wet suit and heavy weight belt. We always got our limit of pacific lobster during lobster season in Catalina and off Laguna Beach.

I have, literally, tied a tank to my back in the Philippines and dove only in shorts without getting cold. I met a Filipino guy on the island that I lived on, during the Peace Corps, that needed a dive buddy. He had a boat, extra gear, and dive compressor so I dove for free for 2 years. We would hold onto the outriggers on his boat, cruise along with our mask and snorkel to look for a good spot to dive, then get back in the boat, put our gear on, and then dive. We would find spots to dive that are crystal clear from the boat to the bottom then get down there and realize that we were over 100' down, which I don't like... For multiple reasons, but the biggest one very little bottom time plus the risk side with no help anywhere near.
