Here is what you do with the Bonvoy points you earn with your owner updates. Located in Fairfield which is about one hour from San Francisco sits the residence Inn by Marriott. The Residence Inn has many of the same features as a timeshare but also free breakfasts like a hotel... I call this "timeshare Lite" since it has a full kitchen yet does not require timeshare purchase. The two bedroom unit had two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a nice sized living room. If you enjoy the full amenities of this type of hotel, then a timeshare may be good for you.

The resort has a nice outdoor pool. Plenty of parking. There is a fitness center, basketball court, and even an outdoor seating area with a Grill. Fairfield is close to Napa and the California wine area. And the best part is you can stay for free if you have Bonvoy points.

So it is a Residence inn, not a Fairfield Inn? Title is confusing.

Yes... Residence inn in Fairfield California... Odd location to not have a fairfield inn

I'm surprised you were offered a 2BR for points. Typically, when we search to reserve a Residence Inn using points or a certificate, only the smaller units show as available.

I got a free upgrade because of my status. I am a Diamond member because I am Premier+ with Hilton Grand Vacations. One of the benefits of being Diamond. I wasn't actually expecting it until I walked into the unit. Then I notice two doors that both led to a bedroom. Had the Same thing Happen to me at a Embassy Suites.

Fairfield Inn would be your Marriot status, not Hilton... Guessing this was a single night stay? Those are more likely to get the bigger upgrades.. That said, many properties don't like to offer a big jump in space as that makes for increased time cleaning the room. I would also say it depends on your situation. If traveling by myself going from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom is not that meaningful. Now if I was a family then yes extra bedrooms are awesome.
