You're Being Lied to About Electric Cars

I always thought that the Model S was a sharp looking sedan:

Love the new MSP with the new wheels and frost blue metallic color. This would be my ride if I could afford it:

Yup, it does have a nice style, imo.

It looks like a racing caliper upgrade. Nice looking car.

It's the performance model stock brakes. I think some of the earlier ones had Brembos but I believe my 2019 suffered from Tesla making the lame choice to discontinue the Brembos and just slap on red calipers. Frankly, I'd say braking was a weak point on the car, but most of the time you're just using regen braking anyhow I guess.

EVs are very heavy, so they are going to need the over-sized brake calipers. I do like the bold red on that, though.

Kurt
Only if you plan to track the vehicle, otherwise the brakes largely go unused due to regen braking. When we traded in our 2023 MY LR for our 2026 MY LR, with 40k miles on it, the brakes were virtually new - almost no wear what-so-ever. This is common with most EVs as they rarely use the physical/hydraulic braking system. We drove 275 each way back and forth the Williamsburg recently, and I don't recall using the braking system at all since we used FSD for the entire road trip. I literally don't know anyone who has replaced anything on Tesla braking systems due to usage. I know a couple of folk who had parts replaced under warranty, but never due to wear like on ICE vehicles, which is common in comparison.

Lastly, while EVs are a bit heavier, it's not night and day. For example, the current MSP weighs 4802lbs. The current BMW M5 ICE Competition variant weighs about 4325lbs with a full tank. That's still 475lbs heavier - or roughly 10% - but that's not a huge difference in so far as percentages are concerned.

The brembo or carbon ceramic braking packages are typically an upgrade nowadays - to help save on costs since the vast majority of these MSP vehicles are never tracked.

I thought this was the kind of thing that makes many people stay away from ev's . A regular water bottle spill shorted out an Ionic 5.

Yes, the rest of the world doesn't realize that electric cars are old technology and will be going away like horse carriages

Apparently, GM doesn't care about the rest of the world and neither do I regarding ev's, lol. I've read that the new v-8's will include improvement that eliminate the prior improvements like cylinder deactivation which wasn't really an improvement to longevity.

I'm guessing the auto manufacturers probably don't care about your opinions too ;)

The EPA fuel standard rules have been rolled back. Tail pipe emissions rules are likely to follow. Neither of these rules made much sense as they were designed to fit an idea instead of reality.

The EV charging stations that were to built under the Inflation Reduction Act have been suspended. Most incentives to purchase an EV are gone.

These are probably the final nails in the proverbial coffin for most ev's seen today regarding North America.

They are getting popular, especially the Toyota's.

Our Sienna Hybrid has proven to be a phenomenal vehicle (so far), averaging 35.4 mpg. If the 2027 Sienna’s are PHEV, we will definitely purchase one.

Do you use your Sienna for a lot of local errands where the daily driving is generally under 30-40 miles per day? This is where PHEVs are ideal - whereby the miles that the battery alone can power the vehicle cover either the entirety or the majority of the daily driven miles. That way your daily driving is basically 100% covered by charging overnight at your home. A standard outlet works better for charging PHEVs since the battery pack is much smaller than a BEV, so in most cases you would never need to install a EV charger in your home for a PHEV.

BYD and a few other Chinese manufacturers have some compelling EVs these days. Longevity is TBD - but still - in some ways I wish the US would stop with the protectionist economic policies and let consumers save 25-50% on EVs in the US market. We keep hearing how people want cheaper EVs - letting Chinese EVs into the US marketplace would solve that problem literally overnight. This is coming from someone who is a major Tesla investor and consumer.

Quality has become a major issue for American Carmaker Ford

The story on MSN tells of the additional discount Ford is offering
BUT NOT ADVERTISING!!
For people with quality problems with new Fords

I do not know anyone who owns a Ford EV

A car dealer I know use to brag how Ford had 40% of the new vehicle registrations in San Diego County
I would bet it is nowhere near that high today
