Self-Driving Mercedes S-Class is a Threat BMW Can’t Ignore - Autoblog https://share.google/teIaY5v5CobcvbkOR

"The Level 4 system by Nvidia can be tailored by automakers for their specific requirements. It makes use of the Nvidia Drive OS operating system, which uses nine radars, one lidar, 12 ultrasonics, and 14 high-definition cameras. It’s far more advanced than the camera-only system used for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) suite, which remains a Level 2 system."

For some reason I always thought Tesla was in the lead.

They are - go use the Mercedes system or the BMW system - which are L3 systems mind you - not L4 - and both are map dependent systems that only work with pre-mapped roads like Supercruise or BlueCruise. Don’t believe everything you read - go experience it firsthand in the real world - and then go find out how much cost that NVidia system currently adds to each vehicle with that huge suite of radar and LiDAR systems. It’s not scalable - which is why you only see it being used on $100k plus vehicles today.

That article is talking about the capabilities of a fully trained L4 system using NVidia’s hardware suite - which no one has implemented yet - and won’t be done any time soon. It’s very easy to write puff piece articles on what may happen - Tesla is the only system actually doing it today - bar none. It also requires a ton of real world data to train the system - and guess what neither BMW or Mercedes have?

Do you think Tesla builds Level 4 and 5 ev's for regular use anytime soon ?

2026 - we will see robotaxi’s go completely driverless in Austin later this year. That FSD system is about six months ahead of the consumer system in use in all AI4 vehicles today - using the exact same FSD AI4 computer and cameras in all AI4 equipped Tesla vehicles that consumers are driving around in today. How many BMW and Mercedes have the Nvidia system today? None effectively. Talking about something and doing it are two very different things when it comes to self driving.
