Your top MVC beach resort?

Why does every thread seem to turn into a debate on KBC?

OP asked for a “beach-y family friendly” resort- not the absolute best beach- not that everyone would agree on that either 🤣
KBC is certainly a great beach-y family friendly resort. Many just don't like the lack of kitchens and in-room laundry. We liked it but would probably try Waiohai next.

I am going to Hilton Head SurfWatch in Auguest. I cannot imagine the beach better than Hawaii but OK I will see myself.
I grew up with the sand and waves of Atlantic Coast beaches so I may be prejudiced toward HHI. But I do think that aside from Waiohai, there aren't any MVC Hawaiian resort beaches better than SurfWatch. The islands have better beaches...but not the resorts.

I actually think KBC has the second best beach of the Hawaiian MVC resorts (after Waiohai). Usually the waves of Nawiliwili bay are a bit tame for our taste...but it's way better than A-Bay at Waikoloa or the man made lagoon at Ko Olina. And if the surf too rough to go in the water at Poipu Beach (Waiohai), Nawiliwili comes into it's own.

Love Hilton head resorts (but would include Monarch, after Grande Ocean but before Barony and Surfwatch, just personal preference) and do love other non beach centric marriott HHH resorts as well. Next would Aruba (both equally, depending on time of year) and always Hawaii (Waiohai, Kaui Lagoons and Maui resorts are favorites) We have yet to see Waikoloa…liked both Ko Olina and KBC, but again personal preference, would not put either on my Go to Hawaii list… Have been to MOW (often) and the two Palm Beach resorts as well, but prefer all the prior mentioned due to walkability, and personal preferences (vibe?) …

I love NCV. However my definition of a beach resort is direct access to walk out on the beach. NCV does not have this feature. Technically its not a beach or beachfront resort.

NCV is a fabulous MVC…We were there in late October years ago…the property is gorgeous..beautiful pool..the villas are nice and depending on the building you are assigned…the views of sunsets over the Pacific Ocean are awesome….lots of things to do in the area…plenty of upscale restaurants in the area…imo Newport Beach is the most upscale and beautiful city we have visited in California…highly recommend.
Our first Marriott timeshare purchase was at NCV. It is a wonderful property but hardly a beach property as it sits up on a hill and requires a good hike or drive to the beach below. The beach down the hill is not much and the water is cold. I think it misleading to even consider this a "beach" property" There are some fun beaches down the road but they share the same cold water.

We retired and left CA and moved to North Carolina and tried OceanWatch (OW) in Myrtle Beach, SC. It's on the beach, has warm water, great views, and "has everything we liked about Newport Coast." So, we bought several OW villas resale and moved our reunions to OceanWatch.

Potential resale buyers only -- Incidentally, NCV has an extraordinary long Platinum season (weeks 23 to 51 less 4th of July week). So, if you own you face the reality of most people wanting the summer weeks - it dilutes your opportunity for a successful summer reservation request. The OW Platinum season is only weeks 20 to 32 less 4th of July week - that's mid-May to Mid-August.

The thing that surprises most is going to HHI in September or even October. When my kids were in school they had a fall break. Still warm enough to swim, island not crowded. I like grand ocean and surf watch. Never been to Barony Beach, but my daughter loves it. Now that kids are grown, we still go back there in the fall.

Love HHI in the fall, though it's not cheap on Abound until around Halloween and that's when the weather starts to get a little cool and rainy.

Both Waiohai and KBC belong on a short list (either 5 or 10) of best MVC beach resorts. I think that the resorts in Spain belong there, too, especially Playa Andalusia.

It really depends on the time of the year. We preferred off season (Late April-May, Oct-Nov) at Florida beaches with Crystal Shores being our favorite. Singer Island is also great, Oceana Palms for adults, Ocean Pointe with kids. HI resorts are all really nice, but we no longer like to fly that far from the Midwest. Hilton Head is also a favorite in off season (Surfwatch, Barony, Grand Oceane) but is too crowded and hot during the summer. Park City an Vail resorts are also good for summer travel to get away from heat and humidity of the Midwest.
Park City is nice but, it’s a long walk to the beach.

Is there a Little Orphan Annie decoder ring for the Marriott acronyms?

Felt more like a hotel on a public beach than a resort. Just a giant pool and not much else.
Can tell a lot from people’s “favorite” or “preferred” takes on locations. Going to Kauai Beach Club next week.

+1 on this request, please. Can the powers-that-be at TUG create a sticky that operates as a timeshare lingo/acronym dictionary?

Google. Literally 30 seconds ago I had to look up MOU because of the new thread despite having been on TUG since 2008...just never had any interest in ski resorts.

Yep. Some just like "trashier" resorts.

I guess "trashier" is taken in to perspective to indicate the ones you are comparing it to are also trashy? Perhaps that KBC is trashier than Waiohai. That would still seem to imply that Waiohai is trashy, no?

No they are trashier than other resorts. Not that all other resorts are trashy. If one is uglier or smellier than others, it does not mean the others are ugly or smelly, they can simply lack those attributes all together.

We're partial to the Aruba resorts, preferring the Surf Club to the Ocean Club. Cooling breeze helps make even summer months comfortable and weather is almost always great. It is our repeat "go to" destination.
HHI resorts are nice, depending on the time of year. Late Spring or early Fall has nice weather- the summer can be hot and humid.
Personally not a Florida fan.
NCV was a beautiful area to visit (we went in the Fall). I know many love the area and go repeatedly, but we had a great trip but it isn't a repeat destination for us.
The Maui resorts (Maui Ocean club and the Westins), Waiohai in Kauai, and Ko'Olina on Oahu are all great, but if you live on the East coast might be more of an occasional trip. Those 11+ hour flights are hard.
Not a Marriott, but in the system so the Westin Lagunamar in Cancun is also a favorite of ours. Beach is not ideal for swimming but great to stroll, and infinity pool overlooks the beach.

We own at the Westin Kaanapali villas and will never trade for anywhere else. We have been snorkeling there since before they were built. Love Maui, that beach, that area of the island, the resort, etc.

We prefer the Ocean Club due to it being less “busy” than Surf Club. Although they are both not what they were just a few years ago. Have become very crowded.

We have a 40 year TS history and have visited nearly all US MVR (including Hawaii.) Never a bad visit.

When turning sixty, we divested several resorts in order to own Deeded MVR in Hilton Head -2 spring weeks and 2 autumn weeks; important
for us to either fly or arrange one-day drive. The amenities of Hilton Head suited our lifestyle.

At age eighty, we continue to look forward to annual Beach Holidays at Surfwatch and Grande Ocean, while also enjoying
two deeded mountain properties.
