The points that expire on 3/31/2020 have been received and used. There is no issue there. The problem is that I was to receive more points expiring 3/31/21 and 3/31/22. But now those points are pushed back 9 months. Meanwhile, my MFs are being paid each and every month.
If you pay mf monthly, book a reservation for January or February that uses all 154,000 points in the aligned January Use Year 2020, and sell the contract so that it transfers after the reservation, but before 3/31/2020, you will break even, because that is the overlap between the "old" Use Year and the aligned Use Year. The same would apply for every year after.

The timing is easier to achieve for July or October Use Years that are aligned to January Use Years. Borrowing the 154,000 in the Express Reservation window into the prior year might be a better option than trying to time a reservation/transfer in the first quarter of the new year.

As someone else mentioned, you receive the points 9 months later than the April Use Year, but you have 9 more months relative to the "old" Use Year to use the points. No points were stolen, just delayed.

I appreciate the positive spin on the situation. If my points are delayed by 9 months, I sure wish my MFs were also delayed by 9 months. That would seem like the fair thing to do.

Like I had explained in a previous post, you will only have 3 months of MF overlap. And since 2021 is a year away, you should check your annual assessment statement for 2021 and compare it to 2020.

Hi,

Sorry, but I don't understand your comment about 3 months overlap.

I have been paying MFs since 5/2017 when I bought it resale. I have used points expiring 3/31/18, 3/31/19, and 3/31/20. The issue is that my points ending 3/31/21 suddenly shifted to 12/31/21. And I have continued to pay MFs each and every month since 5/2017.

The most fair way would have been to start paying 1/2018 for 2018 points, regardless of whether the points ended 3/31/18 or 12/31/18.

Some just don't get how unfair the non prorating of points on a use year alignment is to owners. Please keep in mind the use year alignment is a policy that Wyndham has implemented like it or not. It works to their advantage and is very unjust to a owner financially.

Just based on what others have said, I agree it appears unfair.

Here’s my take. Why don’t you dump your Wyndham and simply bank your MFs? That way, your cash is aligned to your use? Then, you are in the drivers seat, not Wyndham. If you don’t agree with a policy of any resort you wish to rent, rent from someone else.

I did just that with various resorts. I had 9 timeshares at one point. I hated feeling like I am beholding to them so I dumped them. The 10500 USD I saved in MF per year now is applied to my vacations. Now, I decide when to go, where I want to rent and for how long. I now OWN my vacation.

You know, in my opinion, if enough “owners” dumped their timeshare(s) when resort(s) make rules that benefits them, they would all take a second look at their policies. They do this because they feel they can get away with it...and it appears they are right.

That’s why I love capitalism. It allows me to decide who I choose to do business with. If I don’t like their approaches, me and my money move on.

Exactly why I sold my last 2 deeds. I found a way to travel cheaper then paying maintenance fees. On my terms and not Wyndham's.

Other ways to travel for much less then owning. And yes even if Im renting the $20 tip still gets me my preferred room when requested without the commitment of ownership. I have found out as a guest I am treated better most of the time then if they know I'm a owner.

My guess is that when you aren’t an “owner” you are treated MUCH better because they are trying hard to get their hooks into you. Once the hooks are in via Ownership, you don’t matter because they got your signed contract.

One case in point. I was renting a week at Wyndham at Waikiki. I got a one bedroom all redone. It was beautiful. I got it on hotels.com for 130 USD a night. The guy in front of me in check in was an “owner” and told they only have a studio for “points”. If he wants to pay cash, he can get a one bedroom. Owners get room clean once at check in. Renters who pay cash got room clean daily.

This has happened to me so many times I can’t count with different configurations where I got better treatment than an Owner. It just reaffirms my belief to rent only.

Just for fun sometime, see if you can get a week at a certain place for weeks or points in RCI (which I also dumped). Many times I found the place I want was unavailable for weeks or points BUT available with choices of bedroom(s) for cash. That is what alerted me to moving to renting.

Also, what I like is they have to EARN my business every time. I can just walk. With a signed, binding contract, that is not as easy. Just my ongoing observation.

My suggestion to A.Win - call the wyndham normal 800 number and ask to speak to Owner Care.
Explain to them that they moved your points without even warning you and you have were hoping to book a vacation next summer (or whenever you might want to go).
When you finally get to Owner Care, explain how they are stopping you from taking a Summer 2020 vacation even though you are still paying fees like normal.
In my case, I found availability on the website, then called and complained nicely.
Owner Care booked the vacation I found and gave me most of the points to make up for my large shortfall. In my case I had a few points left over.
It is worth a shot.
Still not fair but it may help lower your blood pressure. :)

You shouldn't have to beg for something that was taken away from you!

Question: finally get to talk to Owner Care? There’s a run around too?

Just for fun, I called Wyndham’s reservation line just now and who I needed to talk to about booking a place picked up in 2 minutes ready to serve.

I do like your suggestion though to try to solve the problem through trying to get through.

It seems to me that Wyndham purposefully makes getting to OwnerCare difficult.
They don't advertise the phone number on their website.
When you call on the normal number they don't have a specific number to punch to get to ownercare.
I felt like the initial person I spoke with was instructed to not forward me to ownercare unless I insisted.
But once you are there , they have some limited authority.
They won't move your points back or waive the MFs for 9 months, but they can do some minor work for you.

I agree with you on contacting Owner Care i would assume it is similar to contacting a sales rep after a sale. Before the new system went into use Owner care was able to add points on a use year alignment. Owner care use to have more authority to help a owner

I’ll ask bendadin question a little different.
Did you borrow points that start April 1, 2020?
Do you have any reservations that start between April 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020?
Do you have any points in the points bucket from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020?

Answering those questions would clear a lot of this up.
