My wife and I went to a Wyndham presentation in Branson today. They have a separate preview center building here that is near Mountain Vista and across the street from Branson at the Meadows. We were offered $200 to attend for 2 hours.

Checked in right at scheduled 10am time. Sales weasel got us at 1015. There was no group presentation just one on one with the sales weasel from the get go, and there was no food or snacks. Only water and coffee.

Got pretty combative within 15 minutes when I told him I would just buy points on eBay for 90% Off the prices he was selling for if I wanted to buy at all (which I don't) and plan to just continue renting. At one point there were 3 different sales weasels all going back and forth with me at the same time about resale prices and all of the "benefits" I would lose buying resale. I just kept letting them have my spiel on resale prices and the benefits of renting from an existing owners, etc.

I was hoping they were just going to let me go after this lengthy loud exchange to get rid of me since the sales room was pretty crowded, but to no avail- the manager made clear he was going to make me stay for the full 2 hours if I wanted my gift. So he sent us with the salesman to tour the units (I was hoping to tour Mountain Vista since we are staying at the Meadows so I know what those look like, but no dice. Only models at the Meadows)- and the guy really did keep trying while we were touring, but I just kept shooting him down with my pesky little facts.

Got back, waited about 10 minutes for the manager person to come back again with my offer, 84K points for $13K. I quickly declined and he didn't even put up anymore fight - told the salesman to get us out of there. All told- 1 hour and 45 minutes for $200. I enjoyed the sparing and a good argument and like to think that maybe someone nearby heard me also and didn't buy as a result. Not a bad way to spend 2 hours on a rainy morning in Branson!

Good for you! We were in Branson a couple of weeks ago but said no to the update (sales presentation) when getting the parking pass and did not answer the phone. We noticed that the big building across the highway had a Wyndham identification on it that we had not seen on previous visits and that explains it--the presentations were always back at the Meadows before.
That gift card offer is a good one, we weren't offered that much when we stayed at Destin Majestic Sun two months ago.

Yeah it was the most we had ever been offered, and we had the time to kill so we agreed to go. The two managers seemed very annoyed with me, but o well?! The one even kept saying we looked really familiar are you sure you haven’t been here before?! Which we certainly had not as this is our first ever trip to Branson. I think he was just fishing for an excuse to deny us the gift card since he knew we were not buying at that point.

We stayed at Branson at The Meadows in 2010. We enjoyed Branson but found timeshare sales folks even in the supermarket. Good on you for getting a gift and not a timeshare. Thanks for sharing your story.

Other than Mexico- I have never seen so many people out trying to recruit people to attend presentations! Wyndham, Westgate, Bluegreen all had “visitor information” centers I saw with salespeople trying to suck you in.

Did the weasels talk to you about a special "card" that you need to get by May 1? We just spent two nights at Bonnet Creek, got in late, were leaving early, no time to waste on any presentations. The parking pass girl kept saying that because of the split between Wyndham and the timeshare business, "you must go to the update! It's not a sales pitch, it's all about the card you need to have by May 1 or your account will not be usable" or some language like that. She said there were two types of cards, one was just a card but one was a magic credit card that would make using my points to pay my MFs worthwhile. We didn't go to the update, but were curious about the "card" and the May 1 "deadline."

It's BS.

They kept trying to convince me that I would be able to offset my maintenance fees using the Wyndham credit card- but as MaryBella7 said above- it’s BS.

Exactly the sales pitch I just rescinded. I am enjoying my hotel Wyndham here in Lake city, FL at the Super 8 .My husband and I stayed at this motel about 25 years ago and loved it. We had retired and were working at the Alabama Baptist Children's Home in Troy. I was very impressed with the arrangement of the room and the size so I told the manager about it .She told me I would really be surprised as they added a new wing and also dinner would be at 5 p.m. WOW, I am so happy I had joined the hotel group in 2012 and added it to my trust. Barclaycard has removed the charge made in the bogus contract.

I love those presentation were I can can just say NO. most of the sales people dont get it and try to push for a sale but I have some who I tell I am just here for the gift and we sit and chat until the time is up. I sorta enjoy making those other sales people squirm and try to make a sales but the answer is still NO. I dont understand why people cant just listen, say NO and go by Start and collect 200 bucks

Right, its easy money to just sit there, say no, and argue with them if you are so inclined. I enjoy the game of calling them out on their BS, and frustrating their lies.

I thought you weren't posting on TUG anymore. Your posts leave me puzzled on so many levels. If they leave me, a veteran Wyndham timeshare owner, puzzled, what do they do to a newcomer?

FYI. Posting confusing -misleading -total nonsense- turning off newbies when they come here for the first time -losing veteran posters is not against the rules. TUG will only be hurt allowing this in losing interest from posters

Presumably makes a newcomer be careful when dealing with Wyndham and it's various parts.

Sorry, I do need to just read and not comment anymore. Interesting to find even sales are confused about offerings and solutions being sold to unsuspecting ones.

I don't understand the whole concept of attending an update just to have a little bit of fun with a sales rep. Prodding the lion to see what will happen? Its no wonder they bite back.

As long as I stick to my guns and keep saying no how do they "bite back" at me. They are never going to convince me to buy from them, no matter how good they may be.

Well the idea of getting 100 to 200 bucks for sitting there listing to someone BS is not worth it to you by all means do not go

I was having to much fun with them and ended up on the do not ask list

I wonder how long it will take them to stop inviting me. Going to Glacier Canyon in June, so I will test it out again then.
