We are at Marriott Crystal Shores. The marketing director was trying to convince us to attend a sales presentation. He said there was a recent survey for Chairman’s Club members. He said Chairman’s Club members complained they know more than the sales reps. So he said this location is piloting a special program, only at this resort, and the sales reps here are specially trained and certified by Marriott to know more than regular reps. Along with the regular Visa cash card, he said they are also offering some cheese and crackers to Chairman’s Club members as a special bonus to attend! LOL

On another note, the pool at this resort is so hot. I was sitting in the shallow end of the pool for about 15 minutes. When I went to stand up, I was so dehydrated from the heat that I practically fell down and fainted. My legs were wobbly which happens right before I faint. I am from Miami and I love traveling in June to the Caribbean and to the beaches in South Florida. My family, friends and I were speculating that the temperature on the Gulf side is much hotter than on the Atlantic side. This will be my first and last trip to Marco Island in the summer. We have a gulf front room that is beautiful with a large corner balcony but I really can’t leave the room for long due to the heat. The ocean is like green soup. It is so murky and the color of an olive. I can’t wait to get back to the Atlantic side. We are going diving and snorkeling in Key Largo on Saturday and that will give me a better comparison of the air and water temperature.

The great answer to that pitch is, "I will buy my own box of crackers and pack of cheese and save me some aggravation."

Or "Cheez Wiz, Wispride spread, or like real Irish Kerrygold cheddar? That's the go/no-go information I need."

Did you actually go to a sales presentation? It seems your only experience so far was with the marketing people, they lie only a little bit less than the sales people. They tend to overestimate the importance of certain things. Like how important and great Abound is and all the new 20+ properties from Westin and Sheraton.

As for the heat, it is certainly hot in Florida this time of year. You need to drink lots of water.

Yes the gulf in the Summer is like bath water, or even warmer. The Atlantic doesn't get anywhere close to the warm temps of the Gulf.

We rented a house in Cape Coral, FL for 6 weeks during the pandemic since we were working remotely anyway. The house had a pool and the water temp of the pool just from the daily heating of the sun was 90-95 degrees. Not exactly refreshing!! You could really only swim in it early in the morning or late in the evening.

There is, but they're expensive to run and need dedicated HVAC work (think like an air conditioner for water). Our spa came with an option to put one in and the dealer laughed when I asked about it because of the cost.

I did not go to the sales presentation here. I was already irritated before speaking to him because I could not complete a Costa Rica booking on release day last Tuesday (and again today). At this point, the system is so bad on release day that I am starting to wonder if the Abound program is any good. Possibly with combining Vistana and MVC, it is increasing demand beyond the point that the system can handle reservations on release days. So I said I do not want more points since I can’t get the bookings that I want. Also I told him when I checked in here, the hotel’s reservation system was down and I had to wait too. If Marriott’s reservations systems do not work, then I can’t see why people would buy more points.

Marco Island in March and early April is nice. I like warm ocean water not bathtub so I stay away beyond May. I just left there June 1st and it was still nice. I did not use the pool. Did not attend a sales presentation as it was useless the last time. Special sales person for Chairman was not informed and only wanted me to buy more points to use for explorer package.

We've been there in late August (which is the worst month in terms of heat in FL) or early September a few times in the past. We never found the pool "too hot". I seem to remember that it was quite refreshing to take a dip in the pool if I got too hot just sitting poolside. But then again, I heat our pool at home to 84 degrees and that's just how I like it. It's still far from being a hottub, which is at around 100 degrees.

I am usually cold, no matter how hot it is. I often do not even go in the pool or ocean. I even brought my wetsuit on this trip. So when I say it is hot, it is hot. I was just reading that this month is the hottest June on record.

This is what weather.com says the temperature is right now. 89 does not bother me but it definitely feels like 102.

Humidity is a killer for me.

So sorry it's that hot. I am the opposite of you, I am hot when it's 66 degrees in our bedroom at night. Drives Rick nuts when I insist on leaving the whole house fan on when it's 60 degrees outside.

As a matter of fact there is, at least for home pools. Pentaire makes a heat pump that heats and cools as necessary.

Crystal Shores has the pool that sits near the Osprey (I think that is it) and has the water slide that gets some good shade earlier in the day; and then the two other pools are definitely in wide open sun during the day. I have always found the water temp to be excellent; and in fact am looking forward to it in a couple weeks from now.

There is a heat advisory today for Southwest FL. The heat index values are 105 to 108 degrees. It definitely feels like it is into the 100s. The pool and beach feel like they are in the 90s. I walked into the beach yesterday and it felt like it was my body temperature. I guess the trick is to constantly stay wet so when you get out of the water, you can feel the cooling effect in the wind. That is the only saving grace but there was one day with no wind. Tat was the day I almost fainted.

Not sure about a large pool with a chiller, but HGV Kings Land on the Big Island of Hawaii has a small cold pool. Its very cold, and I almost never see anyone in it. I usually go in for a few minutes once or twice a trip.. then back into the spa...

This made me LOL

Like WHY would you willingly and purposely have SOME sales reps know MORE than OTHERS?

Ha ha, that is exactly what I was thinking. Shouldn’t all sales reps know the program?
