Denise, ULTRA owners at KOR must confirm between months 12 and 10. ULTRA Premium owners do not.

This is more trivia than anything else. There are not that many. Enough to explain the ocean-front reservation call-in question, but as a practical matter ocean front owners who paid the ULTRA costs are going to either occupy it, or rent it.
An oddball may relinquish for StarPoints, but guess who gets the unit then?

Although the situation Greg poses is theoretically possible, I don't think it will be a productive strategy. It can't hurt to try, but lightening would have to strike.

Anyone interested in ownership types, reservation rules, or reservation priorities for WKORV should read pages 69-74 on the 2010 Owners Manual - especially Sec 5 (Reservation Rules) Part G. (I can't copy/paste from my copy). What I really find interesting is that it actually states that multi-week owners may get priority over single-week owners.

David, does the 2010 edition state that an ULTRA owner must confirm at least 30 days prior to the reservation date?

Yes - It appears that an Ultra owner must confirm their usage 30 days prior to their reservation date wheras it appears that this is not needed for the Ultra Premium. In both cases, the Plan Operator (SVO) will automatically reserve the VOI.

Thanks.

It's The Fixed week option that requires the reservation to be made between months 12-10.

Not positive, but I think it is reserved and the owner has to confirm by 10 months. I recall briefly seeing that in the OM. That is how my WSJ works - they are also reserved further out than 12 months. I already have confirmations for June 2013 and has been since Jan/Feb.

What is real interesting is that they give a priority list that I hadn't seen before. starting of course with Ultra Premium (at a 30%+ premium), Ultra, Fixed - then with considerations for multi-week, single-week, LO intact, LO split, EY and EOY - so logic would hold that it is not purely time-stamp on phone call.

I know it is splitting hairs, but the trivia is interesting.
The Owner Handbook makes a distinction in the rules between "reservation" and "confirmation".
Fixed week owners do not have an "auto book". They must actually make the reservation between months 12-10.
"The owner must reserve the Owner's Use Week by the deadline stated in the Reservation Rules".
Whereas, ULTRA owners have to confirm the auto book at least 30 days in advance of the reservation.

Yes, the reservation rules permit a pecking order for multi vs single week reservations, etc. I'm not sure if they apply to the room location queue. Don't know.

The ULTRA Premium and ULTRA owners absolutely sit in front of the call queue. Again, it probably only makes a difference with the ocean front units.

Thanks for all of the helpful responses. At some point I stopped being annoyed about it and just enjoyed Maui, and now I'm home in a much colder place. I guess the best advice is to accept what is assigned and not rage against the machine. That being said, the reservation system sucks. If I knew there were so many variables, I might not have purchased. At least it was a resale, as $100K plus for that type of reservation lottery is ridiculous.

"It's not about 3rd floor v. 2nd floor"

"Perhaps more troubling is that I had requested highest floor, and when they looked someone who called after me was put in a unit higher than me. When I asked why this was, they told me that the resort ranks rooms itself, and a second floor pool view is more desirable than a third floor view that looks north (we booked our entire unit)."

I guess it really isn't.

If that one person who called after you was not on the 3rd floor with you on the 2nd, would you be happy? I doubt it. You'd still be complaining about the other 13 people (this week your neighbors) who called and made their reservation before you did. ... eom

Next time feel free not to click on the link if the question is going to annoy you. No one is forcing you to read.

Mookie, ... I hope you did read the posts from Fredm and responses to him in this thread which explain how what happened to you was likely something dictated by the type of week others own and you do not.

Your solution, if you choose to utilize it, is to upgrade your WKORV week to an Ultra week or Ultra Premium week. The alternative is to not spend any more money, call at exactly 9:00 am again and take your chances on the exact floor.

It is good that you got over your frustration and enjoyed your vacation. WKORV is a very nice place. And, you will always be in a corner, larger, ocean front unit when you reserve at 12-8 months. That's not too shabby for a resale purchaser. You did good! Salty
