Well, things happened quickly, just bid on Ebay and won an auction for 2BR at Grand Chateau it's biennial Even years, $2,475 with closing costs included, hopefully didn't overpay, but seemed like a decent deal and it being EOY seemed like a good compromise to get started.

Seller is seans0302, anyone have any experience with him?

Not sure as yet, I wasn't sure on the timing, I signed the agreement and sent to the transfer agent on the 25th, haven't heard anything from them since, I sent an email this morning following up.

I think it typically takes a week to hear back from Marriott. Update your experience when you do!

I've had 2 this year and both took only 1-2 business days. The broker I've worked with on both said they were currently taking 10-15 business days but that was not the case.

Just found out this morning that it did pass ROFR, very exciting, I did add to that ROFR Experiences page.

I signed and sent back the External Transfer Form right away, I asked the transfer agent on timing, she said that the deed has been sent out to be recorded, and that once they receive that back, everything will be mailed to Marriott, which will then take anywhere from 4-10 weeks for Marriott to process the transfer.

I'm hoping it will be done before the end of the year, I do wonder about timing, I guess my hope is that I'm able to book a week in December and then immediately deposit in II, which would be anywhere between 10-12 months before the reservation, and then that should allow me to find something decent in Spring 2025?

If you are using the week for trading (which I assume you are) then find the week with the highest TDI, book it, and lock it off if you are looking for two trades, and deposit both sides into Interval International. You can request up to two years in advance so you shouldn't have any difficulty if you want to put in an OGS for 2025 or 2026 use.

We purchased a resale (Marriott) this summer and the transfer into our Marriott ownership once closing was complete was only about four weeks. We were expecting it to take longer too so were pleasantly surprised how quickly it happened.

I think it would have closed sooner but I had submitted an expired ID and the Seller tried to pay the transfer fee with a Canadian cheque which they wouldn't accept, I would guess it would have been around 6 weeks or so if that hadn't happened. Now need to figure out which type of II membership to purchase and how to book and deposit the week.

I can go in and see the availability, it seems like pretty much every week in 2024 is available, I'm wondering if I should book a week starting Oct. 26, which has a 130 TDI, or a week starting Nov. 23, 2024, which is the latest week I can book now, but has a 115 TDI, or wait until Wednesday and book a week starting Nov. 30, 2024, which has a 120 TDI.

I have two questions:

1. Am I right to assume if I am going to be upgrading the units from a studio and a 1-BR to hopefully two 2-BR, even spread out over two years, is there any reason not to get a platinum membership, seems like discount on the upgrade fees more than pays for it ($40 more per year for platinum x 2 years vs $40 discount x 3 upgrades)?

Good news. I am happy for you. I am also happy that Marriott isn't taking as much time to transfer.

As you are aiming to get unit size upgrades, you could benefit from the highest TDI available, so go for the 130 even though its 11 months ahead.
There is no way to know if you are splitting hairs or not, you probably are, but give it a go and see how it is.

The transfer company just sent me an email letting me know that the transfer documents for my resale purchase were submitted to Marriott. This will be another data point to see if Marriott is actually faster at processing. Will keep you posted.

October is a great week in Vegas because there are conventions that consistently bring in crowds. We were in Vegas over that period of time. It was so busy. I think I would deposit the October week.

I do not believe it is $40 more per year for platinum, I think it is $139 more. You have to have the basic II membership, then pay an upgrade fee. It is a bit deceptive, because on first glance it looks like you can choose the $99 vs $139, but see at the bottom it totals the basic membership and platinum together.

Also, if you click the button "Show Gold Prices", the title on top changes to say "Upgrade Options".

I couldn't make the numbers work when I just had one lock-off in Interval and wasn't purchasing Getaways. Maybe if you use guest certificates or Getaways it will seem like more of a deal.

This has been said a few times before in my prior posts, but I think everyone is over analyzing the trading "power" as you DON"T need a rocketship to go around the corner. I own platinum WR and I've been able to get Christmas, NY, Spring break in Hawaii all the time with in a 2 or 3br unit, using either the 1 br or studio. There is no way it is an accident or dumb luck if it was able to be done over and over again. IT IS ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE!

Personally for me I want the cheapest MF which has been WR, cheapest to acquire which usually is WR again and be able to go where I want/when I want which this has allowed me to do. I would agree with others that you want platinum and won't even consider gold because when I am getting rid of it eventually, platinum is way easier than gold and there is really not much of a difference in the cost to acquire it. Even if it is a $100-200 more. Most WR can be had for next to nothing, so why spend $3-4K going after GC or GV when WR will do it. I also did an analysis way back looking at the cost of the 3 br GV, locking it off to trade, looking at the MF vs buying 2 x WR platinum and IF ever needed trading the whole 2 br vs the 2 br lock off of a 3 br GV. You are further ahead acquiring 2 x WR vs 3 br GV, looking at your net cost. I'm not sure why you need such a big unit to get something that can be had with a 1 br lockoff. I do notice studios do not yield as many larger units as when I first started trading, but it still gets some of the 2 and 3 br units, just not as much.

After exchanging for the past 13 years, I have yet to NEED to use a whole 2 br unit to exchange and Hawaii seems to be the highest demand destination in the system which I am trading into on a regular basis every year. To those who say they can't get it, the tips I have would be the placement of a request AND searching multiple times a day every day till you find what you are looking for. There is no magic or advantage, doing these things on a consistent basis will yield what you are searching for. I'm just not understanding why someone wants to pay more to get the same thing. Keep in mind the MFs are skyrocketing and WR is over $1600 now.

Agree with getting a platinum week as a trader and for easier resale when the time comes

As to location. All are considered “overdeveloped” with many good resorts. However there are differences.

1. Branson trades we’ll, but it’s also very much a regional resort and doesn’t have that national or global attraction as a vacation destination.

2. Orlando is probably the most requested exchange destination, but it’s full of high quality resorts and then there’s that DVC regional block.

2. Vegas is right on the heals of Orlando for exchange requests. Grand Chateau stands out because it’s one of the few with II on/close to the strip and it’s the highest quality Interval resort IMHO.

We own in Branson (not Marriott) and it trades surprisingly well. We also own Grand Chateau and it trades very well if you select a decent week. If it were me, I think I’d be looking for a Grand Chateau week followed by Willow Ridge Lodge in Branson. Orlando just has to many really good resorts and far to many beds for me to ever consider that area

I doubt any of us know for certain unless we worked for II and had access to some proprietary data. In theory week 52 should be the absolute best there but that's a plus week. For Platinum weeks it appears week 24 will be best along with the week associated with Easter. But there are another dozen or so weeks that should be close. Grand Chateau has the most forgiving calendar of any resort I can think of. It works great with about any 13 month window combining with other resorts and has some of the least variability of any resort from an II exchange standpoint. I have come to believe that the difference between Elite and Premier ratings with II is more important that first thought.
