I watched today Classic Concentration taped in the 80’s. It has been decades since I watched it. Enjoyed watching Alex, he was great.

He was unknown to a lot of people but not a lot of Canadians as he hosted a quiz show for high school students called Reach For The Top which was taped in Toronto in the 70's (and possibly before and after). High school students studied all sorts of subjects and trivia knowledge to get on their school team and then the team competed with other schools' teams for the championship. A former Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, was on the show on his high school's team in 1978.

Thank you for this!!!

I remember in the 70s the seeming rotation of game show hosts, kinda knew them, cuz they would pop up on the next new show... I kinda thought Alex had to have a background like that, and sure enough, he did! Just not on US tv.

I honestly can't think of someone enough like him to replace him.

I think Ken Jennings would be a good choice, but he'd need training, since he's a bit too "Aw Shucks" to carry the program right now. Brad Rutter would be better - he's faster, and more personable, but he's a smart aleck. James Holzhauer is way smart, but much too smug to be a game show host. They're three brilliant game players, but announcing and hosting a show like Jeopardy requires a certain degree of finesse. The host has to have an air of smarts, combined with a certain sense of urgency. I have no idea who could do it. Let's hope it's not Steve Harvey - with his screwups at the beauty pageants, he'd be a mess by the end of the first show. ;)

Wait - if Wink Martindale and Pat Sajak had a love child... :D

I think Ken Jennings would be a good choice.

I remember years ago Alex and Pat Sajak switched shows for a couple of days, with Alex doing Wheel of Fortune, and Pat doing Jeopardy.
Alex had no problem but Pat was only able to do about 80% of the show before time ran out.

So whoever replaces Alex would need to talk quick, have a slight sense of humor, and is personable like you said.

Someone with too much humor would ruin that show.

I agree that Ken Jennings would be an EXCELLENT candidate to take over for Alex Trebek if and when he ever retires.

Ken is a good thinker, and has a personable personality.
