I think it was Robin Williams who said, "Cocaine is Nature's way of telling you that you make too much money."
Such a shame to see yet another idol be ruined.

Returned from a memorial service this afternoon for a friend who died at age 40; collapsed at work and by the time someone found him it was too late.... the world lost a man whose joy in life was making other people's lives better and who didn't expect anything back except for his joy in knowing that he helped.
What's the point in a comparison? Why describe her as "a celebrity and that's all"? Why assume Whitney's death doesn't leave a true void in a huge circle of lives, even though it doesn't leave a void in yours? Why use your feelings about Matt's death as a way to diminish the death of another? What I'm getting at is that I have a hard time getting overly worked about the death of some celebrity who is just that - a celebrity and that's all.
The deaths that are tragic are the ones where the person leaves a true void in a huge circle of lives - not just immediate family and friends.
Yes, its unfortunate that Whitney Houston died, and died relatively young. Yes there is pain and sorrow. But to me it's really not anything more than just another premature death; the fact that she was a celebrity neither adds to nor takes away from her death.
But Matt's death ... the world lost a man whose joy in life was making other people's lives better and who didn't expect anything back except for his joy in knowing that he helped. I would gladly trade fewer Whitneys for more Matts.
I remember thinking the first time I heard I will always love you, that it was the most perfect song I had ever heard.
I wasn't a huge Whitney fan, but she might have had the best voice I have ever heard.
I remember Dolly Parton singing her song - "I Will Always Love You" at the end of her show every week when I was younger. I didn't much like country, and she was everything country that my Mom hated, (I watched at my Dad's) yet I liked the show and found myself liking her...I really liked the simple song.
When I heard Whitney's rendition of the song I was amazed. It took me a bit to realise it was indeed the same song. That's when I started paying more attention to Whitney's voice rather than just dancing to her pop songs... Truly an amazing singer that got sidetracked.
R.I.P.
Several posts that were in poor taste have been deleted - plus the responses.
Ride - knock it off...
I didn't see these posts, but I also thank you for the smack-down to whomever.

IMO her celebrity doesn't diminish the tragedy of anyone else's death, anymore than theirs diminishes hers.

She wasn't just a celebrity to her family and friends, but to us, that's all she really is/ was. Steve's point was that she is just a celebrity to those of us who knew her only because she was famous. I understand what he is saying. What I'm getting at is that I have a hard time getting overly worked about the death of some celebrity who is just that - a celebrity and that's all.
A celebrity's life often gets way too much attention.
So many true heroes die every day, and their deaths do go unnoticed.
A celebrity's life often gets way too much attention.
Whitney Houston's death, while a sad thing, was the direct result of very unwise life choices. It dominates the news.
Charlie Sheen is 45 and his story is all over the news because he is a
substance abuser, an adulterer, sexually promiscuous and obnoxious.
Lindsay Lohan is 24 and her story is all over the news because she is a
celebrity drug addict and thief.
Something as frivolous as Kim Kardashian’s stupid wedding [and short-lived marriage] was shoved down our throats, While........
Justin Allen 23
Brett Linley 29
Matthew Weikert 29
Justus Bartett 27
Dave Santos 21
Jesse Reed 26
Matthew Johnson 21
Zachary Fisher 24
Brandon King 23
Christopher Goeke 23
and Sheldon Tate 27...
Are all Marines that gave their lives last month. There is no media for them; not even a mention of their names.
Honor THEM by sending this on.
