I think you mean Harbour Point/Sunset Pointe at Shelter Cove ? They are basically managed together and i love that location (and the points deal). Not sure why they chose to spell "point" differently ...

Did Marriott name those two resorts or were they part of an early acquisition when they got into the timeshare game?

Part of the acquisition. My understanding was HP was originally Built by the burns corporation and was 100% completed when MVC acquired it. There are still owners there from before and some of them are still not happy that Marriott took over their private resort.. Monarch was under construction and in active sales. That's why monarch is a combination of fixed week and floating weeks and HP has only fixed weeks. In addition it was Spicebush, Swallowtail and a group of individual condo's commonly referred to as the Saturday Villas. SP was purpose built by Marriott.

I was told Harbour Point was built/named prior to Marriott while Marriott built/named Sunset Pointe. That also explains Point vs Pointe.

Maybe, Ocean Ponte has the same spelling but then there's Grande Vista & Grande Ocean compared to Grand Chateau. Not to get too nerdy but I think the correct spelling would have been Point referring to location rather than pointe which is generally reserved for a ballet reference. Grand is also likely the more correct spelling since there are no Mexican resorts on the MVC side.

I can see the term "grande" in reference to Grande Vista given the theming and architecture of the resort. Not sure why they have the e in Grande for Grande Ocean.

The first few times I was there I referred to MGV as "gran-day vees-ta" given the spelling. Even more weird that there are really no "vistas" there, unless you're talking about a driving range.

It's been hit or miss. Last time we stayed at Heritage the resort specifically told us we'd have to pay for initial access and others have reported a similar experience over the years. Recently getting a pass at the main gate seems to have been more common. One just needs to realize it's a possible issue. For that visit we also had weeks at MGO so were able to get a pass from them instead.
Interestingly, I received two emails today about our upcoming stay at Harbour Club. The first email said to pick up the pass at the Sea Pines welcome center. The second one indicated a one time $9 fee for a pass to get into Sea Pines. I'll have to email them for clarification.

Please let us know Marriott’s final decision.
Wishing you a Happy New Year.

I got a lovely voice mail yesterday from Amber, the Surfwatch front desk manager, letting me know that I couldn't get into 5600 (that true oceanfront building) due to owner occupancy (which makes sense and wasn't really expecting,) and that Tidemark (5500) will be closed due to refurbishment. I wasn't aware of the refurbishment schedule, but taking that building out of circulation certainly would make my options as an exchanger fewer. :)

I called back this morning and, while Amber wasn't available, the person I spoke with was very pleasant and said that while I would most likely be in 5300 or 5400 (the two larger buildings on the far side of the lagoon and true "garden view") they were going to be able to honor my request for a high floor, corner/end unit. So I am more than happy with that, and made my satisfaction known.

Now, to dig up the Marriott wristbands out of my timeshare box and see if they will still work or if they will allow me to exchange them for the newer bands for no additional cost. Also, in one of the pre-arrival emails I received yesterday, they were encouraging me to visit the "Concierge Desk to receive a complimentary Vacation Privileges Card." If they try to sign me up, what's the best incentive I can negotiate for? I don't want to leave any $$$ on the table, LOL!

Evidently, the 5500 building won't be available due to the only elevator in the building being 'refurbished'. It must be challenging for rooms control to have one building out of service. I never understood why that building only has one elevator.

They typically offer a range of compensation for listening to the spiel (which by the way, is about a 15-minute drive from Surfwatch down by Grande Ocean if you haven't done one before). We won't settle for less than $300, preferably a gift card but the SERG restaurant group credits work as well.
