Which building to request for a low floor KoOlina Mountain View?

Hello! I posted on a previous long thread, but just thought I’d start a new thread. We received a response from the prearrival team about our high floor request for our upcoming 2 Bedroom Mountain View interval exchange at KoOlina coming up soon. Their response Although your request is notated, anytime there is an exchange through Interval International, it is the size of the unit that is confirmed not the view. Please know that rooms are usually on floors 2-5 as those owners on their ownership occupy floors 5th and above. Our team will place you in the best possible room location based upon availability for your arrival day.
So, I’m wondering If anyone has any suggestions for the best low floor 2 Bedroom Mountain View room or even which building? I saw a picture of someone who had a 3rd floor in the Nai’a building(which was my original building request, but a high floor), and they were looking right into the parking garage. It was really bad. I would like to avoid something like that. But are all of the low floor two bedrooms like that? Thanks for any suggestions.

A lot of the mountain view units in Naia also have a lagoon view. Some of the mountain view units in Moana have a parking lot view, but you could also get a golf course view. Are you a Marriott owner? If so, you will have an advantage over a non- Marriott owner.

Thanks so much! We are owners but at Newport Coast, not KoOlina. So perhaps I’ll request a lagoon view in Naia and golf course view in Moana….but maybe 4th and 5th floor specifically so we aren’t looking into a parking garage?? 😊 Do any of the mountain view units look into the property?

Not trying to hijack this thread, but does the guest of an owner receive the same home resort preference of floor as if the owner was staying there? For example my home resort is Ko Olina with an Ocean view. If my son uses the villa without me as a guest, would he automatically be placed in a lower floor ocean view where he might be looking through palm trees?

If you put his name on the reservation when you booked the villa (and thus your name continues to be attached to the reservation with your son listed as an "Additional Guest"), then he will get 'your' villa preference.

If you fill out out the form afterward...I don't know partly because different resorts have different rules and I don't know Ko Olina's. I *can* tell you that when I spoke with the nice people at room assignment at Waiohai and MOC a few years back they told me that 'owner occupied' trumped guests/renters. And weeks owners trumped those who exchanged in using points. But I don't know how they view 'weeks reservation not occupied by owner' vs 'points reservation used by person who made reservation' (since I am weeks owner/occupier at both resorts).

Just word of warning. As an MKO owner using my deeded week I have gotten a lower floor assignment (2nd floor). As an exchanger I get it that no views are a given and if I receive anything better than it is a bonus.

But booking my owned week 13 months out, I still received a 2nd floor room. And the opposite has happened. On an exchange I have gotten higher floors than 5th. Though no high floors when I have a bunch of weeks in same view units strung together.

Frank, were those for single weeks stays or multiple units/weeks?

As Frank808 stated, there are no guarantees that you will get your request granted, even as a deeded owner. Although we are Chairman's Club owners and deeded week owners at Ko'Olina, I remember one year when we were staying there for several weeks in a row using points and weeks and I added an Interval trade. It was a horrible mountain view location in Moana directly above the parking lot, so we could sit on the lanai and talk to people who were parking their cars.

Yes, I understand we are just using an exchange and wouldn’t expect a good view, especially with a Mountain View. I was just wondering if there were any not too horrible views on floors 2-5 that I might be able to request. It never hurts to ask, but I’ve never been to Marriotts KoOlina Abeach club, so I dont know, and you can’t really tell from the unit map. For example, I would never have thought there would be units that look right into the parking garage.

Best bet is Moana tower looking over the golf course. Half the tower would be over the garage and the other half not. Naia would also be half not facing garage, but no lock offs on the non garage wing of Naia. What unit code do you have?

Funny thing going is we are at Lakeshore Reserve right now. Did not know Orlando got this cold in December. It was in high 40s this morning. Right now it is 60s but the heated lazy river is nice.

Yeah, I had to wear a jacket this morning. If we were still traveling from Ohio, this would be in a pool, but not now that we live in Florida.

This was a new unit as this was a 2br lockout and the previous weeks were dedicated 2br in Naia. But the follow on weeks (2 or 3) reservations were the same type, 2br lock off.

Did you move to a different room after the exchange week?

Thanks so much for this info! Our code is HZZAB (2 Bedrooms), which I think is the lock off two bedroom…is that correct? If so, should I request just the Moana overlooking the golf course (not the garage)? Is that the only good option? I really appreciate your help. I know you are an expert on KoOlina. And I realize we are just exchangers….we own at NCV, and I know they always say to be as specific as possible when making requests, so I just thought I’d ask. I also understand that owners of each particular vacation club should be placed in the best view units. I’m just trying to avoid the absolute worst.😊

Sorry to hear...but yeah. We had one year at WDW in December that saw mid 80s at the beginning of the week and low 40s as the high at the end.

Yes, we own ocean view and always book a 1 bedroom for our entire stay (tho' when we arrive in January, we'll have an ocean view studio for a few days before we move into our 1 bedroom).

Yes Moana and golf course view if possible. The amount of rooms that fit that request specifically will probably be less than 25% of the lock off 2br mauka view rooms. The other half of Moana looks over garage and most of the ZZAB rooms in Kona look over the garage if limited to the first 5 floors of each tower.

We are also exchaging into Ko Olina from NCV. We understand that we don't have much choice as to unit selection. Are there any buildings (lower floors) that are newer or newly refurbished?

Also. we we fortunate to trade our NCV Gold season for a studio at Ko Olina. Then we used e-plus to trade into a 1 bedroom. Has anyone ever sucessfully traded a NCV Gold into a Ko Olina 2 bedroom using II?

Thanks!

We were very fortunate to use our gold NCV week to trade into a 2 bedroom at KoOlina.
