Where am I? [Kauai Trip]

OK, I admit it - it really wasn't unplanned at all: The end of August we closed on 2, Ali'i Bldg. resales at Lawai Beach Resort, and we already knew we wanted to buy a 3rd week. Well, after seeing the shocking conditions at Kauai Beach Villas with our own eyes, we decided to bail out there and wash our hands of it. So, we went ahead and bought a 3rd resale week from the resale office at Lawai Beach Resort, and made our 2025 and 2026 reservations.

Ahh, yes, that makes sense. Now I remember you mentioning that. That's a great resort. We went through a unit there years ago and almost bought a unit. It will be nice to see some pictures from you stay there next year.🤙🏻

Today we went to the Allerton McBride Weekly Aloha Market. It was mostly crafts, except for one produce booth, but they had an entertaining free hula show at 12:30 out on their big lawn:

Then we had a late lunch at the Olympic Cafe - we always enjoyed eating here for good local food, a bird's eye view of central Kapa'a, and great people watching! We found out that they closed during the pandemic and the owner of the building bought the previous owner out. Currently, they are only open until 3:00, because they aren't busy enough in the evenings to justify staying open. I hope they make it! Here is a panoramic shot from our window seat:

We always enjoy at least one meal at The Olympic during our visits. Hopefully they will still be there when we return in May.

Poipu experts: Does this paved walking path have a name - I marked it with a black line:

I haven't stayed at the resort, but Lawa'i Beach is my favorite spot in south Kauai to go snorkeling. Good place to watch sunsets too. In Feb 2000, seven of us took a short break from dinner at the Beach House to watch the sunset. The framed picture sits on the shelf above my PC's monitor.

I enjoyed the hula show there because when we went, the narrator talked about what hula really means to the Hawaiians. We did get some delicious malasadas there too. Yummm!

Several years ago the Olympic Cafe opened a 2nd restaurant in the Poipu Shopping Center where Roy's used to be. The manager appeared on an episode of Hawaii Life. We ate there twice. The food and service weren't that good. The restaurant closed before COVID. For awhile it was Volcano Pizza and they made very good pizza. Sadly, according to Google Maps, that is permanently closed. I think it's currently Isola Cucina, an Italian restaurant. Maybe this one will do better than the rest.

There are a couple of pretty good summertime surf spots there as well - PK's, Centers, and my personal favorite, Acid Drops.

Yes, I agree with y'all.
Lawai is a great resort with excellent control of their financials. Just a lot of people aging out it seems since they have inventory that the HOA owns.

We go to Point @ Poipu for Thanksgiving and Lawai the week after every year.

Arriving on Kauai 19 days and counting.

Is it just my imagination, or does a lot of hanky-panky go on in the adult hot tub after dark? I even smelled a skunk down there last night... (if you know, you know.)

Are we still playing Where Am I? I'd say 2-404. We stayed in 2-304 in 2021. That year I believe T_R_Oglodyte was in 3-303. We could see him sitting in front of his computer screens. We benefited from their leftover food when they had to go back home.

Nice location; next to the spa, close enough to parking & walkway/ocean with nice view, esp as many of the OF views have been blocked due to the new constrxn!

I don't know how I started reading this thread tonight, but I just wanted to say this is a most beautiful sunset photo. Lovely capture of the 7 of you. Wondering who took the photo, and also a rare but touching pose.

Here's the story behind the photo. My aunt had lost her husband, so her sister, my Mom, invited her to join us on the trip with my parents and my sister and her husband. We were eating dinner at the Beach House Restaurant. After dinner, while waiting for the check, my aunt wandered down from the table to watch the sunset. Thinking she must be lonely, DW went down and put her arm around her. Soon all of us followed. The waitress was kind enough to take the picture with my aunt's panoramic camera. A copy of that picture has been sitting above my cluttered desk for the past 25 years.

Sadly, of the 7, only 3 of us are left. We still treasure the memories of that trip which included 3 nights in Waikiki and 7 nights in Poipu. Everybody had a wonderful time.

BTW, when there's a nice sunset at the Beach House, many dinners will take a break, and walk away from their tables to watch the sunset.
