I am renting an OceanWatch villa from an owner through RedWeek. Owner thinks he can only add my name a week prior to stay. I have rented my MVC timeshares and have always been able to call owner services and add a name anytime (lately they have removed my name and changed it to my renters.) Has this changed?

You can do it on marriott.com like always up to about 12 months before. But if you call now they will not do it, they make you fill in an online form.

I do not think so though I add the renter’s name at Marriott.com. I have not incurred constraints doing it that way.

There is no reason he can't put the unit in your name now. An owner can change the name or change it back up to a year in advance and I would imagine as late as check in day.

No. The name can be changed right away. In the worst case, it may take a couple of business days.

There have been some people advertising on Redweek and elsewhere, who are not owners, and who do not actually have the week they are advertising. It can be either an outright fraud, or sometimes they may try to obtain the reservation for you at the last minute at a steep discount, and keep the difference. That is the reason they cannot put your name on the reservation right away - they just don't have the reservation.

Have they at least provided you the confirmation number while the reservation is still in the owner's name, so that you could look it up on marriott.com yourself? If not, and if they refuse, I suggest backing out of this deal.

Confused! Last time we rented a week through Redweek they demanded we change the name on the reservation and provide proof to them it had been done. Maybe they have changed 5heir policy. We own at Oceanwatch and have never had a problem changing the name, at any time!

True, if it's a verified listing.

Maybe it's an exchange, and the owner doesn't want to clue you in on that fact. Still, they can add the name and give you the Bonvoy Res # from the exchange confirmation.

My guess, if they want to wait until a week prior, would be outright scam or exchange rental or an owner who has no clue what they are doing. Have you paid yet?

I don't know much about rentals, but as of April, Marriott seems to need 30 days to change names on the reservations. Just found this out trying to let my brother in laws family use our timeshare, and we are under the new 30 day rule.

I would cancel if you have the opportunity unless they change the name. Be aware though they could remove it later if they own the week but are scamming you.
