You better start thinking now how you are going to use these points. Some of these 40K points must be either saved points or bonus points. Each has an expiration date. Please read this post again.

I am trying to use them for this December, but wanted to upgrade to platinum to get some more points with either retail or resale. You guys have really helped me understand the limitations.

Thanks, this helps get through a lot of the vagueness from the sales guy. He would not spell it out, but kept saying I should just wait until March 20th to get the platinum after telling me I could do it 12 months in advance. I think because he knows only the plus rooms are available not the regular that I was looking at. lol.
You are welcome. You are asking great questions to try to understand the rules. It is complicated. Once you understand, it will be much easier.

Edited to add: And the salesperson can lie or certainly won't correct any misunderstanding to get a sale.

I think that you now understand that platinum deed will not help you one bit to use those 40K points. Where/When/room size are you trying to go? I will look at the availability now to see what your options are.

Yes, it sounds like 9 months will be pretty much be the way of life unless I manage to get a 51/52 event week. So I guess not much reason to upgrade to platinum? Just get anything with points? Playing the 9 month game, is there even a reason to get another deed for Hilton Hawaiian Village versus some cheap place like montana?

I need two 2 bedrooms for Oahu Dec 13th - 27th. Right now, there looks like only there is only a 2 Bedroom Plus at Lagoon that is available if I could book right now.

You're getting the nuances quickly :)

Vegas is your cheap place, although some of the properties at Kingsland on the Big Island are good buys as well. The thing to focus on, if you want to keep this long term, is the HOA fees (Maintenance Fees of MFs) ratio to points. This will quickly outweigh original purchase price financially.

You can look in this sticky thread for details:

Cheers.

SOLD (DVC, FSRC)
I was planning on doing the walking thing this time.

I don't think my actual question was ever answered, or maybe I overlooked it in all of the responses that went other directions. What do I lose by going resale instead of retail?
The difference between HGVC resale and retail is

(1) HGVC Hawaii Resale ClubPoints don't qualify towards HGVC Elite recognition which begins at 22,400 ClubPoints. You can find the full description once you log into the Club Member website (see screen capture below). Here's the link - https://club.hiltongrandvacations.com/en/club-membership/elite/elite-terms-conditions

(2) HGVC Resales doesn't qualify towards HGVC Max exchange program which provide access at 6 months to HGV's other timeshare systems (Diamond/BlueGreen/Embarc). You can find the full description once you log into the Club Member website (see screen capture below). Here's the link - https://club.hiltongrandvacations.com/en/hgv-max/faqs

Another question is, if I get a platinum for 2 Bedroom. Am I still locked out until 9 months if all that is available is 2 Bedroom plus? Is your home week only for the exact room size and type? I had thought if I got a 2 bedroom that I would be able to book 12 months out for any of them like 2 bedroom PL, 2 bedroom LX etc..., but now I am not sure.

Yes, your home week is for the exact unit size, unit type, season for the designated check-in date. You will want to book your home week, during your exclusive three month window (approx 12 month to 9 months) before the Club Reservation window begins where access opens up for all HGVC owners.
Yes, if you wait until access opens up to all owners, you may not be able to book your home week.

Yes, that is why I was joking about Montana. Is Vegas the place to look for low fees?

Currently I have 1 BD, Gold, 8,190 odd year. I have 8,190 points from 2023 saved in RCI. I have 32,000 bonus points. I have 8,190 points for 2025. I guess also 8,190 points for 2027, but looks like I cannot use that far in the future.

You shifted the target a little with the new December dates and needing two 2 bedroom units now.

Using bonus points is more restricted than club points. Call in now to see if you can use the bonus points for the dates you need. Phone support can verify if there is available units for bonus points and any date restrictions on how soon you can book. I'm not certain if bonus points are restricted to club reservations.

My advice for buying is to purchase starting in September. If you are trading in with Hilton then use up all the points first, trade it with 0 points, you already paid the fees for them. You already know trading in a unit right after paying fees is a bad idea.

Man, another monkeywrench. I think this is the first that I have heard that bonus points have even more restrictions. Is there a list of those somewhere?

Someone posted a link to the rules document earlier it's all in there. One restriction is they can't be combined with club points for a reservation.

I suggest you spend $15 and join TUG, then monitor the Sighting Forum. You will see some good weeks available in RCI to use up the points you deposited there.

I understand the combined, but I can reserve 5 days with year points and the other 12 days with bonus points right? two reservations, but effectively one?
