Maybe block around the side of the track because it would be prohibitively expensive on high rises. I don't see F1 bearing the cost nor the liability on covering 50+ story buildings in the area.

IDK...this might be like the 2016 Rio Olympics. Tickets were uber expensive 9 months out. Then as Zika hit and people cancelled, you could buy tickets at ticket window cost on the day of the event.

Southwest has return flights on Sunday when it was unavailable before.

We'll go and take our chances. If not we will see shows, walk around and eat. I don't believe they could block our windows. There is no notice on our reservation that windows would be blocked.
During Comic Con in San Diego they wrap whole buildings with advertising. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Yeah, I don't know what they could do with Grand Chateau. It seems that HGV is somehow involved as a sponsor/partner. So they may have had to provide some concessions. As for Grand Chateau, very few of the rooms will even have a decent view of anything. Lower floors facing Harmon will be okay. High floors probably not much of anything. The orientation of the towers will make only a few rooms available to see anything, even in the distance for those on high floors. Trying to see anything straight down to Harmon doesn't sound all that comfortable.
I understand that for the other big hotel and resort operators on the strip, aka Caesars and MGM, they are directly involved and have probably paid licensing fees for rooms facing the course and are also charging top dollar for those rooms.

I'm just not seeing how it would be legal or enforceable for a city to require a hotel to install screens to block views of a public street from their windows.

THIS. The race happens on PUBLIC STREETS paid for and maintained by PUBLIC TAX DOLLARS. It's ridiculous that they are trying to block the view from regular sidewalks/overpasses/the air between the street and buildings. *smdh*.

Olympic events that happen on public streets--the road bikes races, tri races, the marathon, etc.--are all generally FREE, because they happen on public streets. Sure, the start/end of these events might take place in a stadium/or a grandstand for which tickets are sold, but the route along the race is accessible to the public. Because public streets/sidewalks. It's the audacity to make obscene private profit off of public assets that shocks me.

Had to shrink these to work.

I could see considerable issues with allowing viewing from public overpasses, overcrowding and safety issue. There would be absolutely no way to be able to watch it from sidewalks because there are race track barriers blocking the view. Sidewalks will still be open but certain overpasses over the track won't be or will be blocked. If they were open, could you imagine the number of people there trying to get a view?

Good thing I care less about racing than watching paint dry. No interest in this at all, so saved a lot of cash :)

Cheers.

The top photo doesn't realy have any views of the track. I believe that shows Audrie St which I believe is where there will be an overpass of the track. The shot looking down is of Harmon, so if no obstruction (it is a night race) one will be able to see something. Not much, just as with any race (except Nascar) , you only see part of it.

An article I read back in July (when they announced the $1,500 per person fee for businesses based on occupancy limits) stated that F1 would either create physical barriers to block those businesses that did not pay the fee, or utilize bright floodlights pointed at those buildings, making it impossible for occupants to view the race track. So yes, it is definitely possible to block whole buildings.

Incredible, I'd like to think there's a lawsuit in there somewhere, revolving around literally blinding the public from viewing a public space.

Last chance to bid on a F1 package with your points. You get two (2!!!) whole tickets, a welcome party, seats for the race and a hotel stay. Current bid is only 1.6 million HH points. It's definitely the bargain of a lifetime!
I guess if you have a boatload of HHonors points to burn and like racing. Works out to be about $8000 in points at the current bid. Maybe they have no interest in staying 32 nights in a random Hampton Inn in Dubuque;)

We have about 2.2M HHonors points. I guess I could bid on this :)

Cheers.

Well with all the problems so far, I am really glad i did not jump on any of the various HGV promotions for the race.

So, any good views from the rooms, or was it blocked somehow?

No views blocked. I'm in XX02 on a mid teens floor -- corner 2BR. I have an awesome view of the paddock area and the straight down Harmon. If we exit the property through the valet station we can stand along the barriers -- there are some safety barricades but you can definitely feel the cars and see them go by at 200+ MPH. Yesterday was a bit light on actual activity but we are looking forward to the action today.

One of the cars sucked a water main cover off the street due to the incredible doownforce. It damaged the bottom of the car and two others. They welded all the covers down.

That's gonna make maintenance tricky :)

Cheers.
