Of all the resorts we have ever stayed at I have NEVER seen such 'competition' for lounge chairs as there is a VDA. I had a conversation with the gentlemen in charge of the Signature service around the pool area and he said it has always been like that, but some weeks are just more 'competitive' than others.
There are some 'prime' spots around the pool, but for us (and obviously others) the 20 or spots for umbrellas and lounge chairs along the rail above the Sea of Cortez is the prime location. And it is get there EARLY or get shut-out.
Our first week was not bad. The first day I went down at 7:30am and got the last two chairs. The 2nd day I went down at 7am, and still got the last two. So then the next few days I went down at 6:30...just to make sure.
But during the 2nd week by the time I got there at 6:30am they were all full. So then I tried at 6am...still full. Since that is the time I normally got up it was no big deal, but I was not going to set an alarm to go down in the dark just to 'reserve' a lounge chair...so we spent the rest of our time down on the beach.
Now being on the beach is really great, but the access to the bar and restrooms isn't as good, and the vendors can be a little intrusive now and then. And the lounge chairs are a different type, w/out pads. We still enjoyed it though!!!
But the worst part is not the demand, but that some people put their towels and stuff there, and then don't come back for HOURS. When I got the chairs for us I at least stayed there until the DW arrived, and the only time we were gone is when we went to the adjacent restaurant for a quick breakfast.
Attached is a pic of the railing at sunrise on the morning I went down at 6am and was not able to get a chair.
