UVC (Villa group: specifically VdA, Cabo) no longer takes advance room location requests so all units are assigned upon checking in. Given that, does it do any good to 'grease the skids' with a little propina to try to get a good room assignment? Or would that be interpreted as insulting? :ponder:

Thx

The proper way to do this is to paper clip a twenty to the back of your reservation so that it is not visible. If the bill is visible it will be caught on the camera watching the reservation counter. The policy at UVC is no tipping for better rooms and reservation counter people have been fired for breaking this policy.

The policy regarding your room assignment is a reflection of your membership for the most part. Elite members get better locations at the resort but this depends on how many rooms are available at check in. I have always been offered at least a couple of rooms at check in for just asking.

So if your trading in through an exchange company in high season your likely to be placed in building 2 facing Cabo as the owners will get the better view rooms.

Thanks Bill. We are actually owners at VdA, but this will be our first actual stay there.

Ironically when we made our 2 week reservation (back in Jan) for a 1BR at VdA they told us we could only get 8 days because they were completely booked for the other 6 days. So as of now we will be moving to VdP for the final 6 days. We are now on a waiting list for those days. :wall:

What is interesting about that though is that I just went into TripAdvisor and rooms are available for rent at VdA during the 6 days they say they are booked and as owners we can't get in. THAT makes no sense to me

The reservation person at UVC told us that when we check in we should tell them we have back to back reservations and see if there is anything they can do to get us moved into VdA for those other 6 days.

So, propina might be needed 1) for room assignment, and 2) some diligence to get us 'relocated' for the last 6 days :)

UVC owns a decent amount of inventory at the Villa del Arco and rents this time out. This is why you see inventory available on sites like expedia.

Feb books up pretty fast at this resort. A couple of years ago, I called to make my reservation at 9 am about 8 months out and was told there was plenty of owner inventory. I called back at 10 am to make the reservation and there was no inventory available for owners.

Also, it seems on a two week stay checking in on Friday gives a person a chance to snag a better room as people check out on Sat and Sun. If you check in on Sun your pretty much stuck.

Thanks Bill.

I just realized that I hadn't given our dates. We do arrive on a Sat....3 weeks from tomorrow :whoopie: So hopefully they will have some un-rented units available for that 6 day period (Sun. the 18th thru that Fri.) so we don't have to move over to VdP (not the end of the world, but still....)

OK, so I just did what I should have done in the first place and went to the MYUVC FAQ's;

Q. WHY IS THERE NO AVAILABILITY WHEN I CALL THE CLUB, BUT I CAN BOOK NIGHTS ON WEBSITES LIKE EXPEDIA.COM?

A. Villa Del Palmar/Villa Del Arco Resorts were built by the developer, the Villa Group. As each week is sold to a Club membership, the developer gives one week of space to the Club. For example, if the developer has sold 75% of weeks to the Club, the developer owns the remaining 25% of inventory, and may sell it to wholesale companies like Expedia or other wholesalers. This is why you might see advertisements on-line for space when you cannot book it through the Club.

Are you doing an owner update? There have been times I have gotten them to give me what I want when I told them that was the only way I would do an owner update. I have no way of knowing if I would have gotten what I wanted if I hadn't done it.
The updates in Cabo have been relatively painless, especially compared to those at Flamingos - never again. Owners don't get much for attending an update so that is no big incentive.
You will be there during the Bisbee Fishing Tournament which is a pretty big deal so that may affect how busy it will be while you are there.
We arrive 10/31, can't wait!

Thanks Carole. I just found out from someone else about the Bisbee, so yes, it may be busier than normal. However, I have gone on to both TripAdvisor and Expedia and rooms are readily available at VDA for those dates, so I at least know they are not "sold out"

I have already told them we do NOT want to attend a presentation. We did last time when we were at the VDP and ended up buying (not a bad thing). I explained that was just two years ago, we are happy with what we have, and do not need, nor want, any more timeshares! :wall:

We enjoy the VDP, so it would not be the end of the world to have to move back over there for the last 6 days...but that just messes up a day with packing, moving, and unpacking :annoyed:

I just wanted to follow-up and let everyone know that we were put on a waiting list for our final 6 days at VDP, and last weekend we received notification that we could indeed stay all 14 days at VDA

Love it when a plan comes together

Great, life is good! Did you do any tipping at the front desk as you originally asked?

That was done in advance. We don't arrive until next Sat. And no, I do not plan to tip.

We had a wonderful two weeks at VDA. I just wanted to share the view we had from our room(s).

It did rain our 1st two days, and then we had some high swells and waves our last Friday as hurricane Patricia was approaching PV...but that just added to the 'fun' (in a sad sort of way...sad thinking of the damage that Patricia was about to deliver...but then didn't...PHEW!)

I brought two cameras and set one up on a tri-pod with a time lapse adapter. I set the adapter to have the camera take a picture every 30 seconds. We then went about our business for the rest of the day.

I then downloaded all the pics and created the video below. We had no idea there was that much movement of the ships over the course of the day, especially the Carnival Miracle. (the other one appears to be anchored).

At about the 2 minute mark they both get ready to 'set sail'.

Whenever you do decide to go you better make your reservation as far in the advance as possible as demand is very high and they fill up quickly (as we found out).
