Wow! Was the cab unlocked? Or did he break in?
So wait till you hear about this adventure … this morning at 4:30 am we head out to the truck and trailer which Hampton Inn made me park on the street. I set my bags down and go to grab the key. And a homeless dude opens the drivers door and says “are you John?” Don’t worry I’m just cold and didn’t steal anything. I’m like WTF how did you get in there. Needless to say I’m always prepared for any trouble and I detain and question the guy. He has my jacket on, had gone through most of the crew cab not finding much of any value for a thieving bum, and I ask him to empty his bag. He then explains he has my cantina and a flashlight. So much for honest thieves. He wasn’t threatening nor violent so I just let him go. As far as I can tell all is well but I still was shook and felt violated. So much for safety in Santa Fe, NM.
I don’t know. I’m normally pretty good about locking and double checking. But no forced entry so I must have screwed up and left it unlocked.Wow! Was the cab unlocked? Or did he break in?
It was in my face ... Suddenly. I had to react as I was trained. Not LEO. I had asked my friend who pulled up to call the cops. I think he was on the phone when the guy split. It was all about deescalating the situation. When he left and we checked nothing real valuable taken nor any destruction then it was why call the popo and further escalate the situation? So we can fill out paperwork or have the cop turn it around on me? One never knows what will happen.@JohnnyO , are you a LEO?
Most of us would be fairly shaken up with something like this & would likely call 911 rather than detain a guy who broke into a car, esp at 430am.
(need to learn these skills from you)..
Many folks are experts at entering without breaking anything, despite all fancy alarms etc..I don’t know. I’m normally pretty good about locking and double checking. But no forced entry so I must have screwed up and left it unlocked.

I like to be more positive. It could have been these bendekos instead:Well I guess it was good it wasn’t these 2 in your truck.

When I was in high school, I used to borrow kayaks from the driver in the picture to go night diving for lobsters. He kept them by a large greenhouse and was happy to let us in exchange for sharing some lobsters. Apparently something was giving him the munchies. Not positive what was growing in the greenhouse....
That is odd since there was already free WiFi, at least for Diamond. I guess there are getting to be too many elite and they have been short staffed plus with the recent events probably even more short staffed so they are discouraging it.
Guess I'll stick to Hyatt
As I said in the other thread, I did see some people recommend IHG, but from my own reading up on it, that only makes sense if you get more value from a 2PM late checkout than free night certificates working any day without a point limit, and without requiring a 2 day stay minimum. I guess for me, the main point of the loyalty program (specifically the credit card tie ins) is the free night rewards. I question if anyone gets much from straight points redemptions / earnings without a card tie in. Maybe the people who travel most of the year for business. Though if you're discounting the FNC a lot cause of various limits, the 4th night free from IHG on points redemptions might make up for it a little vs 5th night free with Hilton. I can't really speak to that - I don't know the various points earning speed or values for IHG.Hyatt Place recently started charging for breakfast, which was always free for everyone; not it's free for 'Elites' (including lowly discoverists, like me, with Chase Hyatt CC)...
On a recent Hyatt Place stay, they had a designated staff person at the entry to BF buffet, asking everyone their room number; some skipped paid breakfast, so certainly $$ saved for hotel operators (most are franchise locations these days, as most of the hotel chains are now using branding/royalties for making $$; most are NOT owned by Hyatt/Hilton/Marriott corp directly)...

See the updated information from the underlying Loyalty Lobby article quoted in post #9 of that thread. I very seldom use or need late checkout anyway that it wouldn't really bother me if it were an actual change.Looks like another Devaluation for HH, with Late checkout being removed as an Elite Perk (& charging $40-60 for late checkout) at Hilton locations. Not nice..

Hilton removes late check out benefit from Honors benefits, late check out fee to apply.

I have gotten a late checkout several times at a TS. The one that I have never gotten is Ocean Oak, so now I don't even request it.There have been a few times with a timeshare when I wanted a late checkout, but that's not really a thing with most properties.
Since we stay at Hiltons infrequently, this will not be that big a deal for us. Both Hyatt and Marriott explicitly list not only late checkout, but the specific times by tier, so there is no mystery. When staying at Hyatt we are almost always asked at check-in if we want our late check-out. No need to ask. Unfortunate to see yet another perk devaluation with Hilton. We use late check out and it’s helped us many times.![]()

My too! I have a hunch the desk will give it to you...I have used Late Checkout many times & hence not nice to lose this benefit..
It's never nice to lose a benefit. According to the updated Loyalty Lobby article, the author contacted Hilton and they explained that there was no actual change. All the stuff I saw written about it indicated that it was always based on availability so this isn't actually a change but more of a clarification of how it works. Try it and see if you still get them; I'm not going to because I never used it anyway and won't lose any sleep over it.I have used Late Checkout many times & hence not nice to lose this benefit..
One of the very knowledgeable posters in one of the blogs said essentially the same thing. His claim, and I'm inclined to agree, is that this will be the same for elites as it always has - availability-based. They have always tried to monetize this and now they're just clarifying. But he expected no changes. It might have been on this LL post where I saw his comments. It's never nice to lose a benefit.
