Tugger Needs Evacation Help!

Bill,

Is this in the U.S.? I know people take their pets all over Europe, but I have never seen pets at Doctor's offices, office buildings etc. unless they are service animals. Are they allowed in the places you've seen them or do people sneak them in? (I guess I can't think of any of the places you've mentioned that would allow that at this time except for kenneled animals on a plane.)

I am certainly not questioning that you have seen this. I'm just curious.

I don't mean to hijack this post from the OP, but it's very common to see pets (primarily dogs) in all the places Bill mentioned here in Los Angeles as well.

Businesses that rent rooms must take pets under evacuation circumstances.

It’s A FEDERAL LAW since hurricane Katrina!

We know! We have a B&B.

You're also allowed to take pets on public transportation during evacuation circumstances.

Just a point of clarification:

I have no problem with anyone bringing pets with them (even in hotels, etc) in times of emergency (hurricane, earthquake, flood, etc), but it is the everyday non-emergency trips that people bring their pets everywhere that "bugs" me.

Thank you all for your suggestions. We have decided to stay.... NOT because of the cats, they are not a deciding factor, if we left we would take them and just keep going until we found some place, or else sneak them in. The decision was made because our county officials have NOT called for our area to be evacuated. We don't understand it, while all the areas around us have been evacuated, but some of my neighbors have told us that this particular area does have a higher elevation, and it is the storm surge that is causing the greatest danger at this point.

We watched the house built last year (moved in on Sep 29 2007) and the county's building codes for hurricane strengthening were pretty amazing. I've been through hurricanes before, major hurricanes, so I do know their strength and unpredictability and my feelings are mixed between thinking we'll be okay, and being terrified. Maybe I need the tranquilizers!

I'll still take any prayers anybody has to offer, however!

Thanks.

I have been watching the CNN reports as Hurricane Ike was "originally" aimed directly at my house.

It appears that this was bad, but Texas was well prepared.

Check this out

A man tries to rescue a car that was swept away by flood water caused by Hurricane Ike while trying to evacuate Galveston Island in Galveston, Texas. The eye of the hurricane is expected to make landfall at Galveston Island early Saturday morning.
