TUGGER meeting January 24, 2024 - Orlando!

Yes, that is another reason we like GC !

Are we having a TUG get together in January 2025?
Will Ron & Joan still be hosting? I see Joan hasn't been on TUG since early July and I believe they conveyed at least some of their St Augustine weeks back to the HOA. Perhaps they won't be down in Florida again in January?

A problem with this type of setup is check splitting. It's easy with Golden Corral. You pay as you go in. You pay for your own drink or just get water. Eat as much or as little as you like. I don't know how a family style restaurant would go about splitting family style meals between guests.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Golden Corral it is

I'll actually be in the Orlando area at this time so I think I can be there for this unless a park meetup ends up conflicting with the date.

This thread is for the 2024 meetup. It was taken off the mothballs by a completely unrelated post.

There has been no 2025 meetup announced.

Hi everyone!
Glad to hear that you’re still wanting to come Jan!
We will not be hosting it but I’ll write Alan Cole right away to see his plans.

I'm going to start a new thread for the 2025 get together. Same week and place as previous years.

Wednesday, January 22nd at 3pm.

Looks like it might be a week later than usual? I always recall it being the week before the MLK holiday week. That is okay though, we will be in Orlando the week of the 22nd and I will be at the meetup!

Not sure if I messed up or not. It just dawned on me early this morning when I posted that it's only about 5 weeks away and we should have talked about a date before this. I can't remember if a date for this year was discussed at last year's get together.

Having it the week of MLK made sense to me because the people still working, who don't have jobs they can work remotely, have a 4 day work week. So my thinking was who doesn't like to take advantage of taking a week's vacation with only having to use 4 vacation/PTO days?

Last year it was a week later than MLK week and we only had a small turn out. I'm hoping we get more people this year. One year there were two get togethers a week apart. There were enough people who couldn't make the original date and wanted to get together.

We can keep the date I posted, change it, or even have two. Whatever works.

Golden Corral in January 2024 is just so . . . Last Year.

Click here to skip on over the new TUG-BBS thread about meeting up at Golden Corral in January 2025.

We plan on attending, missed it last year.

“Everything” is messed up this year due to Christmas and New Year’s Day being on a Wednesday. It feels like things are pushed back a week!

Yeah, I guess it was the week after the holiday week last year. I think having it on the holiday week works better. Keeping it consistent year to year on the MLK holiday week may result in more consistent turnout.

I’m not sure we could stay there 4-6 hours, getting food throughout and having chairs altogether in one area and changing chairs very often.
Sometimes people who say they are coming are unable to and others are able to come last minute. We like to be able to completely accommodate everyone.

oh no, thank you so much for sharing ! Here I was planning on swimming everyday, it’s normally so cold to swim outside.
Then there is the scatter brain that had the wrong day in her head and missed it. My grandson was two months old that day, and is now 10 and two months. I don’t dare tell him he missed the tug get together he probably would really be mad if he found out his brothers went to Disney that day and he missed that too.

Thanks Jan and Alan for continuing the get-together. We looked forward to it every year and took “a vacation from a vacation” as we came over from our St Augustine timeshare for 3 days each year.
Of course, we felt we weren’t really “on vacation” spending the months in FL… we were “just living” somewhere warmer.

Unfortunately after going to St Augustine for 20 years for at least a month every January, we have had to return our weeks and stay home for the winter and now we know why we wanted to go south! However, at least we are in the temperate Pacific Northwest, on the western half of Washington state, which does not have the extreme weather of other parts of the country . It’s just mostly rain (sigh). And I hope for no snow.

My DH Ron has developed a medical issue, mainly an ongoing lung disease, (pulmonary fibrosis) which makes it harder now to travel, so we have slowed. We are happy here doing “simple” things and being close to our son and family.
We are thankful for our 7 years of full-time timesharing and meeting so many of you. Timesharers are Very Special People! So many have become close friends.. Thank you all for that!

And continue to have a great time!

@ronandjoan thank you for organizing these meetings in prior years. I hope they’ll continue, because we enjoyed meeting everyone at the one we attended. Best wishes for Ron, that his condition stabilizes and y’all can continue to enjoy life in the PNW. We cruised the Columbia River a few years ago, and that area is lovely! Happy holidays and happy new year.

Best wishes to Ron and Joan. Love that we had a chance to meet you in person.

We won't be attending this year because Rick won't let me plan anymore trips to Orlando for a while. We always go sometime in January. I even turned down an exchange for mid January to Disney.
