so ive recently discovered you can utilize youtube to convert your long form videos into podcast format for those of you who prefer audio listening, it was actually so easy im simply waiting for the other shoe to drop on me doing something terribly wrong here....but thats where you come in!

for those of you who subscribe or listen to podcasts regularly, does this youtube "podcast" feature work for you? or is it just showing the youtube videos themselves?

see if the link above works, and if you can slot it into your usual podcast feeds/subscriptions/etc id certainly appreciate it! if this does work it would be a super convenient way for more owners to listen to the tuesday livestreams in just audio format!

edit: if the youtube link doesnt work in your podcast/streaming platform...you can try this one: https://media.rss.com/timeshareusersgroup/feed.xml

looks like ill have to manually upload all the audio files to the big podcast networks, though hopefully tomorrow for any of you who do subscribe to those you should be able to find the Talking Timeshares with TUG podcast soon (if not already) on spotify/apple/pandora/etc.

On desktop and I think even in the YouTube app, they show up as videos.

yea, i thought perhaps i was doing something wrong as thats how it shows for me. disappointing for sure...but i suppose you get what you pay for.

sadly for all the other podcast platforms its going to require me to manually download all the audio clips from the weekly livestreams, then manually upload them. thatll take a bit! though the last 3 should all be live shortly (or at least thats what it says)

shows up on apple podcasts sofar (though only one episode)

last 4 episodes show up, but i guess i should have uploaded them backwards...whoops!

Yea, my podcast app just says it's not a valid feed URL. I think you need to provide an RSS feed of the audio files and then any app can import it. I didn't try searching in AntennaPOD though.

have the past dozen or so episodes uploaded now! will upload the newest one each week after the tuesday live show...had no idea this many people were interested in listening vs watching!

I'm interested in the live part, but unfortunately I'm an early to bed kind of person so you do it after I'm usually asleep unless I happen to have the next day off for some reason.

The Spotify podcast works fine. An entire hour of an podcast is kind of long, imo. Joe Rogan is the exception. Mr Ballen , The Vibe and podcasts like these are some we listen to on road trips. The podcast is a good idea for people like me that listens to Spotify .

yea id likely only ever listen to a podcast that long if i were in the car or at the gym or something....

though admittedly when I do listen do them it tends to be in the background while im doing something else...

I dont think its terribly easy to pick apart the different "chapters" in each livestream audio download sadly.

Can they be split in two ? Instead of a full hour, maybe two 30 minute episodes a week. Maybe Timeshare Tuesday & Timeshare Thursday. You would get twice as many podcasts and possibly more exposure.

thats not a terrible idea!

I think perhaps we could trim down the livestream so it comes in around 30min...vs an hour.

i believe on average they are in the 45min range at this point and only get up to an hour when I get questions/comments to address from viewers....and i tend to ramble alot and repeat things!

i think 30min a week is doable though.

The entire point of podcasts is long form, and an hour is a short one IMO. Many I listen to are 1.5-3 hours.

What are you listening to ? About the only long podcasts I listen to are Joe Rogan or Howard Stern. The Mr Ballen podcasts are more like chapters lasting maybe 15 minutes but those chapters can add up to all day. Mr Ballen showed up on my YouTube feed. The episode lasted maybe 15 minutes and when it was done there was another episode ready to go.

The thing about a short podcast, like 15 minutes, is more people seem to finish it which is good for the algorithms. I think that audience building and interaction is better with short podcasts. Another short podcast I watch on YouTube is spilt milt. It's a guy that goes fishing in a kayak. His Chanel has grown pretty fast. Another short podcast type show I like is Ichy Boots. She rides enduros all over the world and her following is huge.

I've never made it though an entire episode of Timeshare Tuesday yet. I am more than willing to do 20 minutes, maybe even 30, but I think the sweet spot might be 15 minutes.

The issue is you seem to be watching on Youtube, where the algorithm is completely different from the podcast worlds. Listen to podcasts like Hardcore History or even ones like Decoding the Gurus and Very Bad Wizards. Or Mission Log etc. We Hate Movies. You might have to use a podcast app of some sort to see these IDK. Or for the wastefully long like Joe Rogan (and as generally devoid of content) check out Lex Friedman, Diary of a CEO and Modern Wisdom - they're also on Youtube but with incredibly long episodes. Alex OConnor also has long podcasts, Professor Dave, etc I could go on.

Note, I don't listen to all these all the time - I don't have the time or interest. I think the only one I do listen to right now is Decoding the Gurus and I'm trying to catch up on a bunch more, but of course I can't listen fast enough.

I do listen to one short podcast - Skeptoid.

It might also depend a lot on what you want to get out of them - I listen to them while doing long drives on road trips, where I'm going 3-10 hours driving. I also listen to them while spending time loading / unloading the dishwasher or taking a shower. The app remembers where you left off and will restart about 30 seconds before that if it's been a while just to catch you up on where you are, so you don't have to sit there for the full time. Youtube OTOH is horrible about this and will usually lose your place if you step away. So the app matters.

Spotify uses algorithms and will show case media similar to the media viewed. It's not so different from YouTube. My guess is most steaming platforms do use algorithms and the data a user provides by the choices made while steaming is just part of the multilayering.

Streaming platforms show case topics based on the users choices. Media that is fully watched is prioritized by the algorithms meaning to gain a viewers show case through the algorithms, a user needs to have used what is considered the full episode which isn't really the full episode. A shorter episode that is watched is better than a long episode the is partially watched because it signals the algorithm the users satisfaction.

I'm not sure if you have had the time to look at Tugs videos but here are two. One is short and one is a regular Timeshare Tuesday. I did watch the short one. I only watched 10 minutes of the long one. If you have time maybe take a look and give an opinion.

Bill

Short one I like.

Todays Timeshare Tuesday.
