Spotify uses algorithms and will show case media similar to the media viewed. It's not so different from YouTube. My guess is most steaming platforms do use algorithms and the data a user provides by the choices made while steaming is just part of the multilayering.
I don't mean Spotify. Usually people look at Apple Podcasts, where as far as I know, a huge part is the actual ratings people give to a podcast. I just don't think you can apply streaming logic to podcasts because usually all the platform knows is you downloaded the file - your app doesn't report back if you ever listen to it, forget about how much of it you listen too. Now if you use a proprietary app like Spotify, maybe - but a large contingent of podcast listeners use standards compliant apps that are just downloading an audio or video file. Podcasts are their own thing, Youtube rules don't apply.
In some ways it's too bad video podcasts using the standards never caught on, as they'd totally free creators from any Youtube or Vimeo or whatever rules. You can change your podcast hoster and as long as you own the domain, you can move it with you so no one loses the subscription for instance. The benefit of protocols rather than platforms.
I'm not sure if you have had the time to look at Tugs videos but here are two. One is short and one is a regular Timeshare Tuesday. I did watch the short one. I only watched 10 minutes of the long one. If you have time maybe take a look and give an opinion.
I don't have the time today to watch these, but I have seen Timeshare Tuesday videos and to be honest, I do think there's a lot of "fluff" in them and the fun has to be the live interaction. Sorry to
@TUGBrian but he's right, there's a LOT of repetition, and the starting content is basically the newsletter. It's 5/10 for me as a recorded show. But that's the thing, many people also watch outtakes of 10 hour long plus twitch streams too, some are edited but often it's just a clip of one topic. So while I might prefer a more polished "recorded show", I actually think getting more live interaction would be great for the current format.
Something like a blend of old Slashdot and Car Talk. IDK if he's just at the max community size or if the time makes it hard for others to attend live, but one thing he could try is a couple other times. One Podcast - the Decoding the Gurus also has a Patreon with live events from one of the hosts on his commute in Japan. But he also tries to mix it up knowing that Japanese 6PM may not really work well for people in North America say, so you can at least catch some mid morning and later afternoon in EDT too. IDK if Brian is trying to court an international audience, but I do think he might want to do a monthly, or every couple months special show either going into a weekend if it needs to start at 10PM (i.e Friday/Sat night) or a mid day episode and see if more people can tune in, or different people, or if it's a complete bust and so 10PM Tuesdays are the best time for live episodes.
The length isn't the problem for me, it's that most of the potential interest in the interaction, but I don't think a lot of people are showing up and interacting in the eps I have watched (I think I've watched 7 or so episodes so far).
