Trying to get Covid vaccine since March 5th. No luck.

How many Americans, who do not bother to get the flu vaccine that do not require an appointment, have the interest or patience to "finally get an appointment" for a Covid vaccine?

That is the problem with the current and future Covid vaccine distribution system.
I think the better question is, how many are refusing to be vaxxed at all? Plenty will go to 'no appt necessary' as it becomes more widespread. I have no idea how many don't get flu shot, doubt we have any reliable data on that for any year.

If I had compelling health issues, I would jump through the hoops to get vax appt, but, I don't, so, I won't. I'll find a slot when a slot finds me and get it done. If I had a doctor in my new city, I'd schedule it through them/their system, and if I hadn't moved, I would have responded to emails sent from previous doctors of mine that told me I was eligible now and where to go, how to get on the list, etc.

It's a total crapshoot based on your location and your existing medical connections. yeah, it's whacky, no doubt about that, but, trying to vax an entire country quickly is a major undertaking and snafus are expected to continue. Less snafus, but, snafus. I think had you been less patient, you would have already had at least first dose. I'm also on the, eh, let others crowd the line ahead of me, I'll get my turn....

Huh?

You must not have read or understood my posts. I have infinite patience for a Covid vaccine at any time. I am just searching for any Covid vaccine in Colorado at any time, like my Governor assures me is available for 60+, which it is technically possible, but realistically is not -- just look at my realistic attempts for a Covid vaccine in Colorado, and the best I can do is a waitlist for a mass vax event "someday" maybe in the future. Definitely no guarantees.

Why are we screwing around with 15-minute appointments for Covid vax at pharmacies?

I vaguely recall someone who could do something about Covid declaring a "war footing" to beat the virus.

So why are we not mobilizing the military medical forces, which we all pay for with our tax dollars, to administer all available Covid vaccines according to specific, individual identifiers to prevent multiplicate innoculation appointments?

Multiple appointments for an individual is what we are getting in the current screwed-up system. My wife, who received a Moderna vaccine today is also schedule for a Covid vaccine on April 2nd. That does not seem right that she should be able to reserve two appointments. I am sure there are others who have two or more appointments reserved, but they can only keep one.

The right thing to do is to require a personal identifier for any indivual, then ONE appointment for that ONE individual.

To be clear, I am entirely OK with waiting for months, if necessary, for anyone who wants a Covid vaccine before me. All my efforts are just so that a Covid vaccine does not go to waste when it could be used for anyone qualified at the time to receive the vaccine.

My wife put herself on a waitlist at a local King Soopers in case they had no shows. She ended up finding her own appointment but this is an option if you are not in a rush.

Ah-hah-hah-ha. They got theirs a while ago. No having to fumble around on the internet like the peasants.

I still would call and request assistance. Can't hurt!!!:)

I suppose this is to see if there’s the rare bad reaction from the shot. Highly unusual for it to happen but apparently the Pharmacy lawyers don’t want to take the risk of an ambulance chasing lawyer suing them because they don’t have enough staff to watch for the reaction of several patients at once and somebody has a reaction.

Just my SWAG why.

Cheers

That's something you need to ask your governor. Here in Louisiana the National Guard has been manning mass vaccination sites for several months. Prior to that the Guard was manning mass test sites.

It has been a big help and one of the reasons our governor just changed to eligibility to 60+ anyone and 16+ with a comorbidity.

Same here in our mass vaccination site. We have first responders (fire and medical) volunteers manning the stations as well as national guard and military medical resources which came later.

The county health department was the key. I don't know if they came up with the idea on their own or called on help from a consultant, but they ACTED and did their job. They organized that last mile to get shots in arms.

You need to ask these hard questions to your officials. There are models out there that are working.

The Guard in Ohio was and is at testing and vaccination sites as well.

Cheers

I was successful in getting appointments in the next County over via vaccinefinder. I was waiting until our State opened up in May but we are returning back to work in April. I am only able to get the shot using my caregiver status of having an Autistic son.(I only learned I was eligible through my local Mom group). It is frustrating that I was not eligible because of my youngest who has severe asthma.(Already 1 bout of pneumonia at 1.5yr old).

OP: Have you checked hospitals in your area? The health system my doctor is in received vaccine last week, and a lot of appointments are available, updating almost daily. I grabbed one at a hospital three suburbs over, much more convenient than the mass vaccination site I was booked for.

My wife just scheduled one for this Sunday via CVS in Loveland, CO at cvs.com. I just looked and they still have appointments available with several date choices.

Success with CVS!

My wife knows a couple who scheduled their appointments at 5 a.m. two days ago (I do not know where). I woke up early and got up just after 4 a.m., so I thought I would go trawling for appointments. Spent 15 minutes searching on the WalMart site, because that is where my wife found success, but her appointment was a 3-hour drive away. Gave up on WalMart and moved on to the CVS site. There were A LOT of real and true appointments available nearby. Could only find Pfizer vaccines, but I am not going to be choosy at this point. As a bonus, the second shot is scheduled while the first appointment is being held. I now have a first shot on March 27th and a second shot on April 19th; both at the same location only a few miles from home.

Thanks for the cvs.com recommendation.

And I am reading this on TUG - a forum dedicated to people who know the drill on how to book a high demand TS vacation week.
In the end, that is how it turned out for me. If I want a high demand WorldMark reservation in Hawaii, I need to be online and ready to go at 6 a.m. Pacific Time exactly 13 months in advance. If I want a Covid vaccine appointment in Colorado, searching online at 4:30 a.m. proved to be my path to success.

When I found our appointments 2 1/2 weeks ago at Walgreens it was about 7:45 am est. Perhaps they usually update their appointments in the morning. We got our shot 3 days later which is better than the one appointment that I made with VAMS in February for April.
I spent less than a week trying Walgreens and CVS at various times, even 3am and 5am before scoring.

Yay! I’ve been checking in periodically to see if quest has success! It really shouldn’t be this hard- hoping systems learn from this and streamline processes - regardless of pandemic or not. St Louis people apparently having more difficulty than us in SW MO- husband got the eligibility call Friday, made appointment hours later for Monday (yesterday). Our health system has made the process fairly easy. He got Pfizer too (I’ve had Both Moderna shots since Jan since I’m classified as HCW).
Here’s hoping you have no/mild side effects with robust immunity :)

Glad you got your appointment scheduled. It sometimes takes a village, for sure.

I've been able to assist some local folks here in Nevada track down their own appointment options. At present, my live circle of Mesquite friends have all gotten at least their first shot, and some have had both. There is talk of maybe actually having a real-life, in-person, face-to-unmasked-face get together in a few weeks. Funny how the idea of something so mundane gets to be so exciting, after all this time. It's a nice thought.

So happy that you were able to find an appointment, and it's even better that it is nearby!

My daughter's cat woke her up at 3am the other night so she went online and was able to book an appointment as well. I booked my husband's appointment at 1:30am. Timesharing has definitely prepared us well for this task because going online in the middle of the night seems to be the best way to get an appointment.

This was me...until about 5 days ago. I'm healthy and I have a strong immune system (can't say that I've ever had the flu). I even wondered if I was naturally immune. But then I was told that a neighborhood pharmacy has plenty of vaccines and openings. Stick! And why not? This pharmacy offered all three flavors and I wanted the J&J. I noticed that so did about 90% of the people who had earlier signed-in.

My county/state has done a great job at promoting and distributing the vaccine. A great job.

Not so much for your state. This is from a non profit media outlet

Tennessee is 47th (out of 51) in vaccinating their population.

I live in Hamilton County TN (Chattanooga area) and early on the rural counties seemed to have a better availability of appointments for the vaccine. I drove to the Rhea county health department to get my 2 shots and my wife drove to Bledsoe county to get her first and will get her second shot tomorrow in Sequatchie county. I am 71 and she is 65 so our eligibility dates were different. Hamilton now has 3 mass sites and the pace of people getting shots is increasing. Yesterday my 35 year old niece got her first shot.

There you go again. Always finding the bad scary news.

There you go again. Always finding the bad scary news.

That bad scary news is actually a data table.....hmmmm. But then again it may be bad scary to be in a state that is way behind others and opening up large groups. I will enjoy being in a state that is ahead and still limiting availability due to demand.

You might want to review this thread as it is about people being eligible but cannot get one. You do realize that eligible and vaccinated are two completely different things.

I was trying for a week with no luck. Then I spent one day on the Walmart site for hours, over and over again seeing if an appointment was available. The 4th hour I got one.

Bingo....this is what you need to do. You can't check a site, see nothing and then give up. People cancel, allotments open up. Become friends with the "refresh" button.
