A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
They also have cooking demo's, wine seminar (on site), bingo, and texas hold em. Many activities have fees but some are nominal and some are fairly high.

I recommend this out of the way restaurant if you are in the mood for a great hamburger.
Lil Gus's at 703 Dogwood Avenue Grottoes, VA 24441
We ate lunch there 10/27/21. See Facebook for more info.

Also check Groupon for a Grand Caverns deal, it's just down the road from Lil Gus.
It's not as fancy at Luray; however. with the discount ($18.00 for the 2 of us) it's was interesting.

They are only 15 miles from Massanutten.

Civil War Battlefields, such as Manassas, and Charlottesville, with their museums are good to visit. So is Winchester, VA, birthplace of Patsy Cline.
Enjoy your vacation!

For dining we love Hank's and Romano's, both close to the resort on Rt. 33/Spotswood Trail. In Elkton, a few miles away, there is a Mexican place that is very good.

I agree with other posts, Mount Vernon and Williamsburg are too far. Virginia has a nice wine touring website and map. Another option is Lexington VA home of VMI and W & L as well as several museums, nice restaurants and shopping. Staunton also has a nice downtown and the Shakespeare Theatre and Home of President Woodrow Wilson. Just over Afton Mountain (I 64 east) is Nelson County which has more great wineries and breweries. My favorite there is Veritas. There are also many orchards (apples) in this part of VA and they should still have apples, etc. Hiking and biking are popular outdoor activities.

My family is usually there in August every year, and we've always made time to visit the various farmers markets, including the Dayton Market of Rt. 42, just a few miles South of Harrisonburg. I don't know if they are open year-round. Hank's Grille on Rte. 33 between the resort and Harrisonburg had excellent prime rib dinners, and breakfasts were always excellent at the Thunderbird Cafe, just west and across the road about 1/4 mile.
Have a great time!!

We will be there the week of Thanksgiving and wondering if anyone has any suggestions for things to do and places to eat anywhere in the area? I don’t mind day trips.
So far I have:
- Mount Vernon
- Monticello
- Luray Caverns

any other day trips or things anyone can suggest?

Thanks so much!
Mary Ellen
Don't forget to visit the Green Valley Book fair, our favorite, 20 minute drive. The White Oak lavender farm and winery, 15 minute drive. Have a great buffet lunch or dinner or weekend breakfast at The Wood Grill in Harrisonburg. Visit the Dayton Farmers Market. The Bluestone Winery in Harrisonburg. The CrossKeys Vineyard. We love the area and we return twice a year. There are more vineyards in Charlottesville, just one hour drive. Visit UVA and all the surrounding historical sites, i.e. Monticello. Have fun!

The Wood Grill is a place for a good meal either breakfast, lunch or dinner. IMHO.
This is a totally buffet restaurant.

There are too many good recommendations in this thread to do them all, so what did you wind up doing?
