Things to do in Hershey that are not Hershey Park

My grand daughter just told me she wants to go to Hershey Park next summer, so now I have to plan a trip for that area. Love the tips in this thread, any great places that you can recommend to stay at, it will be 3 adults, 2 kids, age 9 and 2 by next summer. I get get discount tickets for the park thru work, so that will save me money

Troegs Brewery for a tour and/or flights
Turkey Hill experience is down my York. We keep saying we are going to do it on our way home but the times never work out for tours.
Strasburg railroad is also about 55 minutes away.
@tschwa2 , I highly recommend Strasburg Railroad, my dad and I took our oldest there when he was 5 --- 30 years ago and had the best time...

We live close enough that we do Strasburg Railroad without Hershey. When my boys were younger , we combined Strasburg, Cherry Crest Farms, and Dutch Wonderland on a fall camping weekend most years. It has been a few years but maybe next year, it will be time for a Strasburg/ Cherry Crest Farms Corn maze camping trip.

The Pennsylvania Railroad museum in Strasburg is also a fun outing for train enthusiasts.

What a wonderful thread
Thank you so much for forwarding it

Nothing much to do in Hershey and much of it has seen better days. I second Lancaster. Lancaster has Amish Country, good farmers markets, and a theme park called Dutch Wonderland if that suits your fancy. If you like minor league baseball, the Harrisburg Senators play on City Island.
Dutch Wonderland is for little kids - like 5 or 6 and under.

Also.. realize that many of these places are a 30 or 45 min drive from Hershey.

Lastly.... If you go late summer/fall - there is the Pennslyvania Reniassance Faire - I think it maybe the biggest in the nation. We went a while ago and I remember the jousting/knights fighting had fake blood that would shoot out when a person was hit.

I loved Dutch Wonderland when was 5.

I think dutch wonderland is good up until 10. Even for 9-10 year olds it is nice to not have rides, that they aren't tall enough to go on. Like 5th graders in an Elementary school. They get to be the big kids. I would probably even go up to 12-13 if they are with younger brothers/sisters/cousins, etc.

and then once they age out of dutch wonderland, they transition into Hershey. It's best not to do both on the same trip.

There's Crystal Cave about an hour away.

What is the name of resort?
Suites at Hershey, both in II and RCI. Summer weeks are rare, but I got an August week in 2024 and my daughter got one for this August, both from II weeks exchanges. It is also a Bluegreen resort.

She got it on 8/24/24 for 8/8/25. She didn’t have an ongoing search. It was posted as a sighting here on TUG. You have to be a member to access the sightings board.
Edited to add:
Looking back at sightings, there were 2 for July 2025 weeks , both posted in 2024.

Willow Valley……our place for the yearly 3 day weekend trips. I think it turned into Doubletree? Not sure if it’s still there - For Hershey, we stayed at a hotel closer to Hershey Park.

There was a retirement community up the hill - but definitely a Doubletree hotel replaced Willow Valley/they got rid of the outside wing. After our first visit, we always stayed in the outside wing. Even though rooms were smaller, we liked having the balcony. It helped when the kids were little and fell asleep. We would sit out there and have a view of the lake/pond.

The Doubletree hotel might still be there.

Lancaster has the Amish country, Amish Farms Tours, out let’s malls and the Sight and Sound Theater ( live religious productions) on stage.

Also, Lancaster has some strange / odd roads names. Example:Bird in the Hand.

We love sight and sound
Seeing David here in Brason next week

Bird-in-Hand is a town, so is Paradise and Blue Ball (they are close to each other, but, you know....not quite. ;)

I just saw that Good and Plenty closed back in 2022. :(
