There's a heated debate - do you do laundry on vacation?

I happen to catch a heated debate on another travel board about doing laundry. Don't think I have ever seen this one on our forums. Probably one of those differences between TS and Hotel travelers. Kinda like cooking on vacation.

I always do laundry on vacation. If I have a 7 night stay, I usually pack for 4 days and do laundry in between. Easier if in-room washer/dryer but will still go find the community one if needed.

Also on that thread, someone said they will do laundry, but refuse to wash any undergarments as you never know what is lurking in washers that are community used. Never thought about that and will probably keep it out of my mind purposely on our next trip.

Curious, are there any timeshares that won't do laundry?

I’m with you, pack for 3-4 days and do laundry once or twice during stay. DW actually likes to do laundry night before we leave instead of having to do it when we get back home. I prefer doing it when we get back home.

We ways do laundry and it's never been a problem. We always like to do a load the day before we leave so we don't have to do it when we get home.

I don't see that changing either.

I usually pack 8 to 10 days worth of clothes when travelling to timeshare locations. My husband usually packs 4 to 5 days and does laundry for us on the 4th or 5th day. I pack more because I don't want to rely on needing to get laundry done until after a week. If we use hotels, we will pack enough to not need to worry about doing laundry. On cruise ships, we have laundry service every few days.

Yes we do laundry on vacation. On Maui, with a washer/dryer in the unit we tend to do laundry every few days. That's because we don't bring a lot of changes of clothes and also because the washer and dryer are small.

On non-timeshare vacations we also "do" laundry by taking it to a wash and fold place.

Absolutely! I actually look for units that have in unit W/D. We usually go on active vacations with lots of activities, so we get sweaty, dusty, muddy, sandy, etc. With little kids, we REALLY appreciate being able to do laundry every couple of days.

DH was complaining about one of our resorts in Mexico (Grand Solmar @ Land's End) that just charged him $7 for a load of self wash/dry. "For our MF's, we should have a W/D in our unit!"

And that is why I always wash the coffee pot.

Our last trips were long and we both only took a carry on. Every resort we went to had a laundry facility in the room or close by. I was down to my last set of clean cloths to wear home by the time we went home because the laundry room was down the hall.

Absolutely! DVC only gives you a certain amount of towels (but they do change them out on the fourth day or so). Love the in room washer/dryer in the one bedrooms. If staying in a studio, there is a free laundry room but not free detergent. I don’t mind doing laundry when I get home, but try to pack light. Florida is HOT so we constantly are changing clothes.
My challenge was our 12 day Italy trip followed by 3 days at a country bed & breakfast in England followed by a transatlantic cruise. Could not do laundry in Italy but the innkeeper in England did all our laundry for a reasonable fee. Did use the laundry on Disney Magic...it’s kind of fun, you meet all sorts of people.
We also use our kitchen extensively at DVC. For us it’s all about saving time and giving less money to The Mouse.

I love being able to pack light and do laundry on vacation! And--the best part--is being able to come home with maybe just one day's worth of dirty clothes, rather than a whole bag full. Definitely makes re-entry much, much easier!

I do if there is a washer and dryer in the Timeshare.
We usually stay at least 14 days in a unit with washer and dryer, so we always do laundry.

I love having a washer dryer in the unit. I do laundry every other day. It really helps carrying on and coming home with clean clothes.

For us, a key attraction of timeshare (at least the ones that we enjoy) is that it's a home away from home. When everything is right, we settle in and continue our lives in a delightful location. That generally means we cook meals, we do laundry several times, we hit the refrigerator when we want to.

When we have family joining us, that expands into multi-generational family time together, built around combined living arrangements. Not everybody in separate hotel rooms, but everybody "living" in a space. People get up when they want to. Eat when they want to. Raid each other's refrigerators and freezers. Warlord beverages and snacks. We quickly learn who chose wisely in the ice cream and snack areas at the grocery store. One or two of us grill, while others work on veggies, do drinks, keep an eye on the young'uns. And DW enjoys doing laundry for others - it feeds her maternal and matriarchal instincts and asporations. How do you do that in a hotel.

A couple of months ago we had a family wedding for one of our kids, where everyone was staying a hotel. And what a difference that was from having most of the same group of people together in two (likely soon to be three) condos in a timeshare.

My wife loves that for some reason on vacation (unlike at home) in TS I do laundry every other day. Not sure how this could ever be a heated debate. If you don't want to do laundry that's great, doesn't affect anyone else, and vice versa.

We don't debate this whether it is at home or while away. My husband does all the laundry and I am not about to start a debate on it. :ROFLMAO:
