The times are a changing, especially in Orlando

The HORROR of only four pillows..... what is the world coming to?

Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Well if we get a room with only four pillows, then its time to call down for more... Otherwise my wife will have four pillows and i won't have any......

if we get a room with only four pillows
We can never figure out what to do with all of the pillows because I use one and DW brings her own.

My wife is like @1Kflyerguy 's wife....she steals them all and takes some from the 2nd bedroom. I am not sure what she does with them all unless she is building a fort to keep me away...which is possible.

We fly to most of our trips, i am not going to suggest that my wife bring her own pillows, that would probably be extra luggage..

We are always digging into the extra bedding in the closet that is there for the sofa bed to pull out the extra pillows. Minimum 6 pillows. I use two because they always squash so flat.

We fly with a pillow for my wife as well as a mattress topper since bed mattresses are so inconsistent. We mostly fly Southwest, so extra luggage isn't an issue.

There have been posts in previous years about Orlando, essentially there are too many timeshares. They're not hurting for $$$, but most weeks they aren't at 100% occupancy. DVC could be 100%, while HICV Orange Lakes, Wyndhams, Marriotts, and/or Westgates have suites available.

DVC can definitely be hard to get. But the location of the DVC properties simply can't be beat if one wants to go to Disney. We own two DVC contracts and I can't imagine staying offsite again. Having done that when I was younger, the experience was so much less.

Cheers.

Bonnet Creek would like a word. I often drive past it between the DVC resort I am staying in and wherever else I am going that day.

Granted, it’s not walkable to a park, but nothing is close to everything at WDW no matter who owns it.

True. And Bonnet Creek is not too bad from a location standpoint. Since we own at two places that was walking distance from Epcot and Hollywood Studios, I'll still contend that it's a lesser location. But this is from a specific bias, of course :)

Cheers.

I hate most hotel pillows. Vile, squishy things that you have to fold in half to get any semblance of support.
:LOL::ROFLMAO:

I’m the same. I usually ask for foam or memory foam pillows, which add more support. West 57th has them for sure. Some of the regular HGVC places, too. I’ve gotten them at Marbrisa before.

Most of the time we get free luggage as well, it really more about the hassle of having an extra bag to deal with...

But can certainly appreciate the value of a good night's sleep.

Yeah...the only WDW park we don't walk to is Animal Kingdom. So to us it doesn't matter how nice the JW is...it's still like staying in Jersey to visit NYC ;-)

Pillows can be a concern, but:

Is anyone else grossed out by jacuzzi bathtubs in hotels, TS, etc. (i.e. places you don't own and maintain)?

We don't use those tubs and many others don't either. That is why many resorts are tearing them out in favor of walk in showers.

I did exactly that in my own home. Put in a spacious walk in shower. Love it!!

My 1st wife had grown up camping in Tents. She was coming to visit me while I was going through Marine Corps TBS in Quantico VA. She wanted to go camping in the Shenandoah National Park. I told her I did too much "Camping" professionally. If she could get a Cabin fine otherwise no. She was able to Reserve a Cabin. During our married years roughing it was a 22 foot Prowler Trailer.
When we were going out my husband took me camping on Long Island. It rained that night and the tent leaked so we spent the night in the car. That was the last time we went camping. He bought me a house for our 1977 wedding present that we sold earlier this year that never leaked.

We timeshare or Hilton Hotel for our vacations.

Ours sort of ended on our last campout when the wife asked about the bathroom in the middle of the night.....I said, out there by a tree....done.

I camped out in my former lifetime.
Nowadays, my idea of roughing it is a Hampton Inn.

A must item to bring on vacation is the Commander in Chief, pillow.
She will not leave home without that pillow. She took her pillow on our recent vacation to Folly Beach, SC. LOL.

Camping out ended when we stay in a hotel for our honeymoon. LOL

high cost of flying into Orlando
MCO is on a cheaper side. It has an abundance of cheap flights with Frontier and Spirit. $100 roundtrip on either from SAT, for example. https://www.google.com/travel/explo...EhAEcrl8qoX0lPAEhIJHOLsx4MsNkARyuXyqtdYWMAgAw

Unless you wait until a month or two before a prime time, there always seems to be availability.
Point. Never a problem. 3 BRs last until around 7 months out (except events), 2 BRs at preferred resorts last 4-5 months out, and 2 BR at Las Palmeras lasts very long (I was able to book spring break 4 months out. Their 2 BRs are smaller and have a half-kitchen, so LP is in lower demand than the rest).

Our idea of roughing it is when we don't have an in-unit washer/dryer.
Once a timeshare traveler, always a timeshare traveler. ;) Or to cite our YouTuber-Tugger whose nickname here I already forgot since I subscribe to his content on YT: "the best destination is always a timeshare".

Do you guys mean big bathtubs like at HGVC Elara, Trump, Flamingo?

I'd agree about the tiny tubs with curtains, that's so impractical, with *bleep*ing curtains sticking to my body if I move too much, but these large tubs in master bedrooms found in most HGVCs are great.

We’ve been staying 6-8 weeks a year at Bonnet and we love it. Less than five minutes to the springs, water park and of course the Beignets. Yes we’re owners and they usually set us up with a great room. Nothing better than watching the game drinking coffee or your desired liquid and looking at the water. Usually get to see fireworks.💥

Flying from Virginia is not cheap.
