I don't usually brine cats, but I'm willing to give it a try.

OMG, I can't stop laughing.....especially since I just had to douse my itchy kitty with lime sulfur dip....and I do NOT recommend that process, not at all!

Cats - with buttered toast strapped to their backs - are also quite interesting. They power alien space ships.

I just now re-visited this thread as I intend to cook my first turkey in years. I actually think it's defrosted now, LOL. Now to the critical brining via Cat's recipe years ago. We miss you Cat, if you're reading this! Here's wishing to all TUGgers everywhere, a happy holiday season! :hi:

I haven't been the official Turkey preparer for a few years myself, bowing out to my very competent sister. But I do always enjoy revisiting this thread.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I brined and deep fried last year

I read this thread last year and did the brine. Plus, I had a new indoor deep fryer, so I did that too with the brined bird.

It came out wonderful!

This year, my bird is not defrosted yet to be able to brine now, so we are going with a dry rub and the deep frying.

We do, too--well, actually we put all the giblets in a dressing or stuffing.
Why waste a perfectly good liver, unless it's in the pursuit of good wine?
;)

Cat is still around - I often see her posts on Facebook. Not sure why she doesn't post on Tug, used to enjoy her posts here.

Time to revive this thread again! Just got a fresh turkey today. 16 pound, perfect size for cooking in this infra-red fryer. We have been brining the bird and cooking in this fryer for the past 8 Thanksgivings

Formerly: Marriott, ILX, Westin, Diamond, Worldmark. Timeshare free as of 12/24.
Two words: Marie Callendar's.

We pick up Thanksgiving-in-a-box at 3PM today. Done.

I will, however, go to the trouble of boiling the bones to make turkey stock for my world famous turkey minestrone on Sunday.

What a great walk down memory lane. This thread started just a few months before I found Tug. To see such awesome information so well received by so many makes me rethink the idea of cooking my own turkey. I'm sure the statute of limitations has run out on me being banned from the kitchen by now...
