Target and Walmart to close on Thanksgiving

@geekette you were initially responding to @SmithOp who did not post "The online Black Friday sales will set a new record this year for each family". I must agree with @PigsDad on this one. The loss of 150,000-200,000 lives will not even be a blip on the Black Friday sales radar this year.
No, I know what I was responding to.

Kurt asked a follow up question.

Your opinion is that staggering loss of life will not even be a blip. noted.

Well, if you consider that cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the U.S.,* what's 154,000 from COVID (some of whom might've died from smoking, anyway). <sarcasm>
*Source: CDC

Not only COVID deaths, but the ripple effect, and the public's response to COVID, will negatively affect consumer behavior for a long time to come. IMHO, the go-go days of consumerism is in the ICU (to make an analogy), and won't return for a generation or more.

Unfortunately since March, our every day lives and decisions are affected by COVID - very hard to keep it out of a conversation. Might not be 100 % of the time - but pretty darn close.

Having surgery? Affected by COVID
Doctor Visit? Affected by COVID
Shopping? Affected by COVID
Vacation? Cancelled/planning? Affected by COVID
Bored? Affected by COVID
Retiring? Looking for a home? Car? Buying a timeshare now/selling one now/finances/jobs? etc. etc. etc. etc? Affected by COVID :(

480.000 deaths from smoking are long term indicators of the effects of smoking (i.e. many, many years of smoking).

Know one yet knows what the long term effects are if you become infected with Covid-19. Might be negligent, might not be, but 5 or 10 years down the line the medical experts should have a much better idea.

Personally, I don't think the long term indicators will result in looking good with all the blood clotting and heart issues being reported when folks are first infected. Time will only tell.
