Here's one for my fellow Canuck's watching the big game. Did you know 10 Canadians have played in the Superbowl! And one was named MVP. Calgary native Mark Rypien led the Redskins to victory over the Broncos in 1988!

It WAS a pretty dull game, but there have been a lot of dull Super Bowls. Those teams that get there do it with great defense, so there are LOTS of 3-and outs. Hu-hum.

I still would've never bet a nickel that Denver would win it. That much was a surprise. See post #5

Why wasn't it Super Bowl L?

I'm glad it's gone but why did they decide to go with Arabic numbers rather than Roman??

I wasn't bored by it at all. There was plenty of excitement both for your teams rooters and the other teams guys.

I did not like the pre snap penalties and the unsportsmanlike and late hits. When will these player wake up and realize they jeopardize their teams chances with dumb moves like that.

I don't need a lot of scoring for a game to be exciting. I love strip sacks, forced fumbles, and interceptions that are fought for.

I think the game lost a lot of energy and momentum, at least the Bronco's did, when Talib got called for taunting. Not sure how it's tautning when the other player is the one to engage but you have to walk away. He walks, no penalty.

If anyone still doesn't believe a great defense can stop a great offense, re-play this game.

I never got any other bets made, I was having trouble with my computer trying to make a TS ressie for next Jan for the NCAA championship game. By the time I got that straight I didn't have the patience to go through ove 300 bets to see what I wanted to do.

I agree, usually when there's a good defense unfortunately the game is called
Boring. There were two good defenses in this game. Another example of
Defenses win championships.

Sloppy? Boring? Yawn?

I guess this is typical of what spews out of fan's mouths when their team didn't win. To see the best defense of the year sit Cam on his ass almost 20 times, hold an amazing offence to a single touchdown and one field goal, and to keep them behind the whole game (which had never been done this season), was in a simple word, amazing!

Cam didn't get to do his "Dob", and frankly he looked completely out of place on the field. It was clear he had not seen a defense of this caliber, and was beyond rattled -- exactly what the Broncos wanted to happen. I wish I could have voted for Wade Phillips for the MVP, because he is probably the biggest reason the Broncos made it to and won Super Bowl 50 with such authority.

Sloppy? Boring? Yawn? I guess people are entitled to their opinions, but these words are more tied to sour grapes that what Super Bowl 50 was all about.

Kurt

P.S. If you think I am not a Cam Newton fan, you are incorrect. I love watching his talent and him play for the joy of the game. I predict he will make it back to the Super Bowl sooner than later, perhaps with a bit more experience to help him out.

most telling part of the game for me was during the strip/fumble of newtons where he seemed to just not care to even dive after the loose ball.

Maybe he had denver +6 also...that just seemed so totally out of place for a supposed MVP winning quarterback down by a score in the superbowl.

I think Carolina got big leads early in many of their regular season games and led in turnovers. Perhaps they are not used to coming from behind, altho' they did it at least once this season. I thought it was going to be more of a shoot-out myself. 2nd time in 3 years, a defensive player was MVP.

I am glad for Manning to get his 2nd Super Bowl win.
Newton is talented and young, he will be back.
I hope my team will be back in the Super Bowl too; don't we all have hopes for our teams for next season :D

So with the underdogs winning, does this mean the sport books won big?

I'm sure there are many of us that didn't have a dog in this fight since our team wasn't playing but I did want to see Denver win. Any impartial observer would agree that Manning and the Denver offensive sucked, as did Carolina. The Denver defense is what got them to the super bowl and it's what won it for them. Hopefully Manning will end his career on a high note and retire, he's not even 50% of the quarterback he once was.

If this was in fact Peyton Manning's "last rodeo", then I'm honestly glad to see him be able to go out a winner. He showed class in steering away from "retirement" conversation in the post-game, instead focusing on his team's collective efforts. Cam Newton, on the other hand, demonstrated no class at all in the brief, sulking post-game interview from which he abruptly walked out. Maybe just puerile disappointment, but classless nonetheless, doing himself no image favors in a still-young career.

The agony of defeat is very hard on any player. Denver just out played Carolina in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

I agree that Peyton showed his usual class (and a bit of humor) in his post-game conversations. It was disappointing, but I will give Cam a bit of a pass on his post-game antics as I think he and all of the Panthers truly believed they had the game in the bag before it started. I expected a bit more from him but hopefully it is just a sign of his inexperience and will do better in the future. With his talent, he will most likely be there again.

The player I was most impressed with was Von Miller. The statements he made after accepting the MVP award showed a lot of class and maturity (same amount of time in the league as Cam). Von talked about everyone else, not himself, giving credit to the leaders and others on the team. Very classy.

So with the underdogs winning, does this mean the sport books won big?

They won big but not because the underdog won.

I put up $5 to get Denver +6 points. I won and got paid $4.55. The folks who took Carolina -6 put up five dollars also with a chance to win something less than $5

So two of us put up $5, I got $4.55 and the bet taker keeps $.45 When the odds are being set they want the same amount of money bet on both sides.

If more money starts getting bet on one team than the other, the odds change to try to even out the bets.

They make their money on the volume and I'm sure there was a lot bet on this game.

For the service I use it started out the Panthers up by 5 1/2, went up to 6 then when I looked Sun Morning it was back to 5 1/2. I don't know what it was just before the start of the game.

On things that could go 50/50 like the coin toss the winner gets something like $.95 for each dollar bet.

The odds that are set are in no way a prediction of what will happen, just an attempt to keep the same amount of money on both sides.

Newton, imho, is a pathetic loser. No class.

Hey Cam, it's your JOB to conduct yourself like a winner when you win, but also when you lose.

A pathetic excuse for someone making the money he is to provide a whiny, petulant, loser interview. Not to mention his consistent delusional opinion of himself.

Have another slice of humble pie, pal. It was a pleasure to see it handed to you.

Loser.

I think the only people that found that game boring are people that don't typically watch football. Impressive showing by the Denver defense. I was slightly pulling for the Broncos, whom I hated prior to Manning joining, but didn't really care that much who prevailed.
Can't stand Cam Newton. Amazing talent, but classless. Just seems like one of those guys who's all smiles and says all the right things as long as everything is going his way, but is a real a-hole when they aren't.

I think he was so unnerved by the previous 57 minutes that he had a brain freeze. Normally a QB thinks about protecting himself in running situations.

I've been a fan of the guy. He's still got a long way to go, though. The only way he can erase that image, and the one of him sullenly ending the press conference, is winning a ring. And the chance might never come again.

Ditto.

Sorry about that, my good friends who are Carolina fans, but if it weren't for Scam Newton, I'd be with you too.
I love Thomas Davis who played for Georgia, and many other players.

But I CANNOT get over the fact that Newton (I hate to even say his name, and can't listen to or watch him) should be in a penitentiary rather than on a football field. He skated on soooo many offenses while in college, and was as deep into "it" as his Grandfather who took thousands in cash.

He has zero class and is nothing but a thug in a sweet little lamb's outfit.
And now we learn he's also a big baby.

A gazillion Kudos to Peyton Manning---what a gentleman! Glad he got the 201 wins, currently one more than Bret Favre, and now the all-time leader. He is going out on top and he's a true role model. Justice and destiny reign for one of the GOOD GUYS once more.

What a game---lots of tears :)bawl:) on the Carolina side,
but many more smiles of joy and deep satisfaction for Bronco fans. :)

Calgary native Mark Rypien led the Redskins to victory over the Broncos in 1988!

I know Rypien led the "Skins to victory over the Bills in '91/'92 but I thought it was Doug Williams who came off the bench and led the 'skins in 1988.
