I hope some of our "long-term resident guests members (with a handle to post) will consider paying their $15 per year dues after successfully using their TUG handle to get what they want (perhaps more than once).

Overall, some people just do not get the idea of "agreeing to disagree". There was no need to bring terms such as attack, attack dogs in this thread, because none of that was happening in the beginning. It was just "civil" way to disagree.

Why is it necessary to belittle people for not being TUG 'members'? I've been seeing this more and more. I don't get the purpose.

Sumday,

I have had some dealing with them and eventually things worked out. Law enforcement with all the cuts I'm sure has better things to do. Actually the OP got a recorded deed and if they really wanted to they could do the tranfer themselves.

Internet and community support from internet is a two-way street.

There is an ethical principle (rule) which basically means "what if everyone did that." If everyone who comes to TUG is a guest member (not a paid member), I am sure this site will shut down or have less moderators, features, etc.

If nobody will donate money to PBS, it will probably shut down also.

Somebody owning a single timeshare and coming to TUG once in a while as a guest member is one thing, somebody owning multiple weeks and over a thousand posts is surely benefiting from TUG (that benefit also got validated in this thread), so cough up the money, please. Again, feel free to disagree with me in civil way.

Please, I appreciate TUG as much as you do. We all benefit from TUG when members, as well as guests, provide their perspectives. I don't see the need for you or others to belittle people for not being TUG members.

If you're correct, then let's require it. It's either required or it's not for TUG posting privileges. That's better than blasting a 'guest' for not being a member, or calling them a cheapskate.

Why is that better? I dont believe it should be required any more than being a good and decent person is required. But it is the noble thing to do.

There are specific benefits to being a tug member...Posting in threads like this, isn't one of them, it seems that your implying that if someone wants any help, they need to pay for it....Thats not really how a public forum should work, a public forum is a place where you can bounce ideas and get answers to questions from people just like you

Some Businesses run forums for product support and discussions on that businesses products and THOSE Private forums i've seem fees to have any questions answered/help given....But this isn't a Company forum, its an open/public forum

Sure it would be nice if everyone i said hi to in the morning gave me $2, but thats not really how life works, its not their job to say hi, why should they get paid for it?

Lets say that the people say "HI" to you on your website, one that offers many people advice. It costs you $1,000 per year to run that website. In addition to saying "HI" one day, you offer advice to someone that helped save them $4 or maybe even $500.

Wouldn't it be nice if they thanked you by joining your membershipfor $2?

If one gains a benefit that EXCEEDS the membership fee, why wouldn't they want to pay the token yearly membership fee? Heck, I don't even OWN a timeshare (maybe some day I will pull the trigger, still learning) but I am a member because I have benefited from the website.

Some people could have been shown how to save $100,000 and still won't pay the $2 membership, that it just the way it is. If EVERYONE did the same, you would shut down your website unless you wanted to keep footing the bill yourself.

The benefit to membership in TUG isn't the advice out on the open forum though, thats just people talking back and forth...If people become or don't become members of Tug, IMO its not because of advice given out here, its because of an expected amount of information that is available in the members only area....and believe me, there is enough information in there to be worth above and beyond the small membership fee

Sure it would be nice if when someone i know gave someone advice that they profited from i got a cut...But is that fair, since i'm not giving the advice?

For me, the issue isn't whether a user should or shouldn't be a member. The issue is should we be castigating a guest for not being a member? I think it's kind of rude myself, and in IMO, it kind of makes TUG look bad as a group.

If a guest doesn't want the extra benefits of being a TUG member, then let them decide.

Anyhow, this discussion should be moved to a different thread or maybe we shouldn't even be discussing it.

Just for the record I am and have been a member for a long time and have pre-paid a couple of future years. The system just does not show me as a member.

I agree with you that it is the "talking back and forth" that makes the website what it is. However, if it wasn't for the website itself, none of that communication would take place in the first place.

If one benefited from the website, even if it was Joe Schmo that gave you the advice that saved you $XXX, that person should consider becoming a member for the token fee to support the site.

If you didn't get the "value" out of the site, don't become a member. If one saved $100,000 with the advice they received here and don't want to become a member, not one person or any amount of "bashing" will make them change their mind anyway.

For the record, I am not bashing anyone. Maybe I missed the threads but I haven't seen where a guest was bashed for not being a member.

No one has to be a member of TUG for discussion on the forums. That's just silly.

I just don't want people to see some threads that have info that should benefit those who are members. Sightings/ Distressed is one such forum here on TUG that is meant specifically for members, and if you don't want to see our secrets there, then don't join. We do share some special stuff there that I would miss terribly, if I was just a guest or lurker.

rrlongwell, sweetie, you need to do something special to log into TUG as a member, but I don't know what it is???? Someone else knows and will tell you. But if you have paid, and you show as guest, you won't be able to see Sightings or read the Resort Reviews. You should go to the Review section and log in there. I think that will fix your status as guest and change it to Member. Once you sign in as Member a single time, you will not show as guest anymore.

Are you including me in this statement? If so, what would I be apologizing for?

People are seeing things in this thread. They are seeing "attack dogs", they are seeing "bashing" and many other types of ghosts.

I do not mind the ghosts. Keep an eye out on those Attack Dogs. One re-seller made a very nasty comment to the effect of pursuing me if I did not stop commenting on his firm. Shortly after this was posted, interesting enough, my E-Mail account was "hit". Hope I do not have to watch out for the Pizza Guys.

and to clarify, you wont find anyone representing TUG bashing you for not being a paying member on the forums. Our policy is and always has been...the forums are free and open to the public.

I have seen people suggest non members join, as they feel the information gained from the site and TUG in general is well worth the $15 membership fee, and if you are constantly using the site...you might as well become a member.

However that is not and never will be a requirement to participate on the forums.
