We will be at the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya this Christmas. I have attended their sales presentation once, and have no desire to do so again.

But I know their style. If I don't agree to go, I probably will get morning calls, waking me up, every morning, until I do. Any suggestions on how to avoid this?

Set up an appointment for your last morning, then miss it.

Fern

Just tell them No thank you

They will try hard at the desk while they are giving you your bracelets , just be polite and firm, We are here on vacation, we don't wish to tour or do any work, but thanks anyway.
The last time Joyce was in a wheel chair, and I told the gal, " She can't swim with the sharks, look what happened last time!!":ignore:

If somehow they do start calling, unplug the phones..:hysterical:

I haven't had them call in any of our trips.

fwiw,

Greg

They are actually pretty good about it once you firmly tell them you have no interest they usually will not bother you again. Have a great time and let us know how you enjoyed the resort since my daughter will be going in January.

This works. At Casa Maya the sales rep told us to do this and just cancel the morning of the appointment. This helps him get credit for the booking and his boss wont have him hound us to book an appointment. Just say your feeling sick and can't attend. I'm sure lying in the sun will cure what ails you.

From what I understand they prefer appts. at the end of a stay so they can sell to you and get you on a plane asap. They feel once you have left the resort the notion of rescinding will seem too daunting. If you hang around for some time after a purchase and talk to others you may get the idea to rescind and march your big bad self into the sales office and make a scene.

Say NO then unplug your phone in your unit.

We were just there. We told them no at check-in, they called and left a message, we never called back. I think they may have called once more (maybe twice and it was after 9am), but we never answered the phone 'cause we knew 'who' is was and there were no more messages.

We don't answer the phone. No need to book an appt so you can intentionally miss it. Loved ones will call your cell anyway.

We have stayed 4 weeks at the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya and 2 weeks at the Grand Mayan - Nuevo Vallarta. When we checked in, we told them that we do NOT do presentations and that was it. They did not harass us nor call us on the phone. There was no problems at all. Just be straight forward and tell them that you don't want to do any presentations.

Just be firm at check-in and say "no, thank you. We're not interested. Pls remove me from the call list as this is a vacation. Thank you anyway." That's all you have to do. The trick is to be firm. Don't be afraid of offending them.

eaasy task tell them you dont have a credit card and you are single with no job that does the trick

I have no idea why some of you folks think you have to come up with excuses, unplug phones etc. Just tell them that you do NOT do presentations period. We never had any problem with anybody being offended or getting mad and we never received any phone calls and that was on every visit.

Because I've done that in the past and still gotten phone calls waking me up every morning thereafter (around 8) asking me if I would take a presentation.

If you DO go, you may want to read this thread first:

I've taken their presentation in the past. No way to shorten it. They go on and on, and if you try to walk out at the 90-minute mark, they won't give you the promised gifts. I also understand that, for some people staying there, they threaten to cancel your room and leave you out on the streets.

That doesn't help when the ringing phone wakes you up every morning at an ungodly hour, causing you to be exhausted for your entire vacation.

Are you specifically referring to the Grand Mayans/Mayan Palaces? We have never been bothered when I made it clear at check-in that we do not do presentations. You need to make sure that you tell the sales folks and not just the person checking you in.

We've never had a problem, either. And we're stayed at MP/GM over 25+ times!

At the Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta, we made it crystal clear to the salespeople, who give you the wristband at check-in, that we would not do the tour. They called us every other day at about 7:30 am claiming that had openings so they could sign us up. They never stopped!

That is funny. My wife and I spent 2 weeks at the Grand Mayan - Nuevo Vallarta and our wrist bands were NOT given to us by the sales people nor is it at the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya. After we checked in we went to the sales lady that handed out the resort map and info and she is the one that we told that we don't do any presentations. She said "No problem" and that was it. You can choose to bypass that step but you will then be called.

We did the same thing when we stayed at the Mayan Palace in Nuevo last month and had no phone calls or arm twisting.

You are going one of the fullest weeks of the year they will not be hounding like some other weeks. A firm no will likely do the trick.

Hi Hoc,
We were at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya this past Easter, and our experience was the same as John Cummings. We got our room, then we were told to get our resort map, welcome package from the lady. (I think that's where the complimentary bottled waters are, too.) Anyways, we told her "no way would we EVER do another presentation from Grand Mayan", and we never heard from them again. No phone calls, zip, nada. So, maybe that particular Mayan honors the "don't call us request" more than some of the other Mayan locations. I don't think you'll have any problems during a holiday week!

We had a great stay. It's a big resort, but even though it was Easter Week, we never had a problem finding lounge chairs. Sometimes the shuttles were full, so we walked back to our unit (bldg. 10), and it was not a bad walk, at all. After a couple of days, we were done with the whole shuttle business -- as everyone takes the shortcut (passing the small GM-only pool; what a waste), it's only about a 10-minute walk.

We rented a car for the first 5 days (half the price of renting for a week), and drove to Cancun one day, Tulum on another (loved Tulum), and back & forth to Playa for groceries and nightlife. We thought driving in the Riviera Maya area was super easy with the nice, wide highway. After our week at GM, we added on 3 days in Cozumel for snorkelling.

We are usually Cabo people, but we enjoyed it so much, we are headed back to the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya for Easter week again in 2009. (Thank you SFX!) The airfares from LAX to Cancun (5 hour flight) are about the same as to Cabo (2 hrs.) -- so, why not dip your tootsies in the warm waters of the Caribbean -- it's so much nicer!

This next trip we'll do one return day to Tulum, and probably add on some expensive activities we managed to skip on the first trip. My teenager has fallen in love with the whole zipline thing, so we'll do that and probably some cenotes. I'd also like to make it over to Puerto Moreles for snorkelling (just up the road from GM), and one more daytrip to Tulum, which I really loved. Wish we had more than just one week, but that's all my kiddo gets for Spring Break. If she was younger, I'd just take her out for a couple of extra days, but now that it's high school --- there's a lot more at stake -- so, it's no longer an option. Sigh.
