We just got back from a week on St Kitts and I must say we loved it. Nice villas, pools, and beach and the ocean was warm with 1-3' waves but no breakers - enough to be interesting without having to dive under. Going in 'Gold season' turned out to be perfect as everything was open but not crowded. And the weather was lovely...warm with only a day of rain. It was very relaxed, no fighting for reservations or pool/beach loungers or anything like that.
On different days we walked around Basseterre, took a tour of the estate where Old Road Rum started w/gardens and Batik, and took the water taxi over to Nevis where we walked around Charlestown, saw the Nevis/Hamilton museum, and went up to a botanical garden. But mainly we enjoyed the resort and the water.
The onsite restaurants are fine and reasonably diverse though nothing was spectacular. For that we went to nearby restaurants. We had fresh fish and great drinks with our toes in the sand at the Shipwreck Bar. Surprisingly good Mexican food and drink at the Monkey Bar (also beachfront...though it had a planked floor) and Indian at Indian Summer where we sat on an covered deck and enjoyed a sudden downpour the only day it rained. But our best meal was at Serendipity in Basseterre - again with fresh seafood and great drinks but this time on a deck that overlooked the harbor...and had a monkey cavorting in the gardens.
While I wouldn't rate St Kitts as highly as St John, it was about as enjoyable as the RCC on St Thomas (though obviously for very different reasons) and more enjoyable than Frenchman's Cove, Aruba, or the Bahamas.
