We just got back from a week on St Kitts and I must say we loved it. Nice villas, pools, and beach and the ocean was warm with 1-3' waves but no breakers - enough to be interesting without having to dive under. Going in 'Gold season' turned out to be perfect as everything was open but not crowded. And the weather was lovely...warm with only a day of rain. It was very relaxed, no fighting for reservations or pool/beach loungers or anything like that.

On different days we walked around Basseterre, took a tour of the estate where Old Road Rum started w/gardens and Batik, and took the water taxi over to Nevis where we walked around Charlestown, saw the Nevis/Hamilton museum, and went up to a botanical garden. But mainly we enjoyed the resort and the water.

The onsite restaurants are fine and reasonably diverse though nothing was spectacular. For that we went to nearby restaurants. We had fresh fish and great drinks with our toes in the sand at the Shipwreck Bar. Surprisingly good Mexican food and drink at the Monkey Bar (also beachfront...though it had a planked floor) and Indian at Indian Summer where we sat on an covered deck and enjoyed a sudden downpour the only day it rained. But our best meal was at Serendipity in Basseterre - again with fresh seafood and great drinks but this time on a deck that overlooked the harbor...and had a monkey cavorting in the gardens.

While I wouldn't rate St Kitts as highly as St John, it was about as enjoyable as the RCC on St Thomas (though obviously for very different reasons) and more enjoyable than Frenchman's Cove, Aruba, or the Bahamas.

I can't say that I like St. Kitts better than Aruba, as I LOVE Aruba- but I do enjoy St. Kitts as well! I just wish the flights to St. Kitts were not always so darn expensive!! Really need Southwest to fly there and bring down some of the more exorbitant pricing of the big carriers to that island!

I am going in March and got a ticket for $442 with Delta from JFK. I tried booking via Atlanta and it was $865!!! United from Newark was $1100!!!

We were just at St Kitts a couple days ago on cruise ship stop. Though we were on the other side of island at Basseterre. If you like hot mineral baths there is a good one on Nevis.

If in Basseterre visit Island Flavours for some Juici Beef Patties. About $2 USD per patti and delicious.

We have looked into St Kitts but getting there from Houston is a pain in the a$$ compared to Aruba. Love Aruba!!

Any idea how far the MVC property is from the cruise port? It looks like the resort has some availability the day we are in port in St Kitts. It might be worth a day visit for us.

Its only about 6 or 7 miles away, so on the right part of the Island.
Traffic can be bad on cruise port days, so it may take longer than usual.
Lynn's taxi and tours is a great company to get you there and/or round the Island. There's an excellent chance they'll be going to the Marriott from the cruise port anyway, as they've built up good repeat trade there.

Its not far ~10 min taxi ride. We bought day passes to the resort for a cruise stop several years ago and really enjoyed it. The day passes are sold by the hotel; not the MVC but provide access to the pool and the beach and towels and a food/drink credit.

Thanks. I secured a reservation. I checked ResortPass and it looks like they are sold out. It must be popular with the cruise ship crowd.

As others have said maybe 20 minutes drive. Lots of green monkeys in the forest off main road turning into MVC St Kitts. No beaches within walking distance at cruise port so that would be a nice visit if beaches is your destination.

We did indeed use Lynn's Taxi for our transfers to and from the airport as well as taking us to/from the Nevis Water Taxi (at Reggae Beach) and the tour of the estate where Old Road Rum started. Wonderful woman and fabulous service.

Some years ago now whilst staying at the MVC resort, it was overwhelmed with cruise ship passengers, which was not a pleasant experience for those staying at the resort.
Whilst you can understand the hotel wanting this for all the extra money it could make, many guests complained and I understand it was agreed with MI that they would put a reasonable cap on the number of day passes sold to maintain the more relaxed experience of the resort.
Thankfully this seemed to work OK on subsequent visits.

From Los Angeles it's incredibly expensive. I'd love to go but not at that price. Less $ to get to STT.

It seems to even be expensive from the east coast for most people.

We had Jet Blue points and used them for a Sun-Sun nonstop from JFK. JB points required was a reasonable amount….a much better value than paying cash for sure.

We found St Kitts to be more expensive than STT but cheaper than Barbados. And a *lot* closer than HNL...;-)

This is what I have noticed as I go to Barbados often. It’s due to the limited non stop flights out of other east coast airports except JFK.

Thank you for posting!! We're headed to St Kitt's for the first time in January - excited as we've never been to the Caribbean before!

St. Kitts is a place you vacation for total R&R.
To be honest we enjoy the Nevis Island more then St. Kitts. Just a nice place to get away from tourists and the natives.

St. Kitts was an excellent adventure and well-appointed, large resort, even with the sargassum on the beach in July 2023. I have a full review on the review page. It's a place where I'm glad we went, but won't likely return.

BTW, United just launched a five day fare sale to Barbados. Travel from the mainland to BGI January 12, 2025 through February 14, 2025 and February 23, 2025 through March 5, 2025 for 12,000 miles each way.

We went yesterday on a cruise port stop. The room, which we almost didn’t see, was fantastic. That said, we were not that impressed with the resort. There isn’t any specific or special redeeming qualities that would make us want to go back. Three pools with the main pool filled with a lot of ResortPass guests from the four ships in port. Probably 12,000 or more cruise passengers that day between the Celebrity Apex, Icon of the Seas and two other mid size ships. The pool over on the MVC side was very quiet with only a few people in and around the pool.

I couldn’t really get an idea of what was around the resort in the way of grocery or restaurants in Frigate Bay but on the taxi ride out I saw a few places where you might be able to go to avoid expensive on site restaurants and bars.

For us, given the expense of flying there we certainly wouldn’t make the trip just to stay at the resort. The two resorts in Aruba are much nicer and the water much more calm in Aruba for wading in the ocean/sea. Getting to Aruba is also much easier and cheaper with more flight options. It also rained a fair bit while we were in St Kitts. Something almost unheard of in Aruba.

Thankfully, the week we were at St Kitts there were no ResortPass or cruise ship guests. The only semi-weird thing was that the 'spa' on the MVC side isn't heated...we had to go to the central shared pool area to get an actual 'hot tub'.

I couldn’t really get an idea of what was around the resort in the way of grocery or restaurants in Frigate Bay...
Island Market is the 'Star of the car' for groceries near the Marriott St Kitts. But there is also a Ram market a bit closer. As for restaurants there are many adjacent to the resort - Indian Summer is exceptional as is Rock Lobster. A not too long walk away away are the ones along the Caribbean Coast - most notably Monkey Bar. And if you are willing to take a taxi the nearby options expand to include Shipwreck Bar and Reggae Beach Bar (among others).

For us, given the expense of flying there we certainly wouldn’t make the trip just to stay at the resort. To us that means Aruba is a 'no go'...having experienced it once we have no interest in swimming in a bathtub nor in visiting a Caribbean desert island ever again. But YMMV.
