I've had this recording for years. I remember it from my teen years when Girl from Ipanema was a hit and bossa nova became popular. Listening to the recording, you can tell that Antônio Jobim and Elis Regina were having a good time during the performance, especially towards the end where Regina is laughing as she's singing.

This song popped up today while I was had my Jobim Pandora station open, and on a whim I did a search for it. To my surprise, the recording session was apparently filmed!!

So here is the Antônio Jobim and Elis Regina duet of Águas de Março:

They really nailed the bit before the end. One of my favorite Stairway to Heaven covers is Heart's tribute to Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones. Jason Bonham , the son of John Bonham played in the tribute.

Jason's appearance reminds me of one of our friends son showing up to to our mountain fire with his uncle. The kid grew up to look like his dad. Having this person drinking and laughing with us seemed like old times. His dad had passed away years ago in an accident.

That was a spectacular cover by Heart of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. Since we are talking about heaven and guitar performances, here is a favourite of mine. It was written by Eric Clapton on the tragic death of his young son. Since the passing of my wife, the lyrics have taken on new meaning for me!

California Sun is a song where the rhythm section is critical. The Guilty Ones drummer is Lisa Pankratz - one of the rare female drummers. I wish there were better shots of her performing in this video, but just listen to her work.

James Taylor is one of my favorite guitar playing singers. I think I learned this song along with my first grade class. We sang it every Monday. Seems like a good 4th of July song.
