Just to add a bit more detail, here in Arkansas we are definitely seeing blooms on trees (Bradford Pear trees especially) and allergy season is on full swing. Our grass has not entirely awoken as most of it is still dormant but areas around fences, houses, etc (any grass near an area where the sun can warm the grass AND a nearby heat absorbing object) were taking off. Most of that growth was able to be dominated by weeds pretty quickly if not dealt with.

I do think it will be a bit before the second cutting is needed as our high temps are still only in the mid to high 60's most days. It will need to get warmer longer to waken the bermuda grass here.

On another point, I wish we could implement drought resistant landscaping here as some of you have been able to do in other climates, but I suspect such landscaping would be quickly overrun with weeds and grasses here (and/or incursion from weeds and grasses in neighboring yards).

So relate but this year will not have to mow as we moved into a community that does it for us.
@Panina - this is a bit off topic, but when you said you were moving to South Carolina, I was picturing a house like the one shown in The Big Chill. Have you seen that movie? The house and surroundings were beyond gorgeous - click here

Never saw the movie, but looked up the house you are talking about. Houses with land the way they use to be. Mine is just another regular looking house that builders now build many of.

The Big Chill is an excellent movie with a cast you will eventually recognize and excellent music!

I live in the burbs of the Detroit area of Michigan. I usually do not have to cut the lawn till April. Last year, since it snowed in April I didn’t have to mow till the first week of May

One of the saddest days of the year is that first day I have to mow the lawn for the year.

For us in Arkansas, that time is now - around March 5.

What about you in your area ?
Post the first day (date) you have to mow your lawn and the area/state you are located.

I believe I mowed the same day you did here in Oklahoma. But for me, it's a HAPPY day, I love mowing.

I grew up in Minneapolis and still have relatives in Minnesota. Since I know all too well how relentless the winter there can be, I still follow its weather, and cheer on any break they can possibly get (trust me, they're few). It was 61 there yesterday and the snow finally melted away across southern Minnesota, about three weeks earlier than usual. Hoping their flood season will be merciful this year.

Great pic from NH, Mary Ann!

So early flowers are up. But this weekend the Highs are going to only be in the mid 40's.

Went skiing in Quebec this past weekend with another ski trip to Maine planned for the end of the month. There is alot of winter left here in the Northeast.

We will not be cutting grass here in Prince Edward Island (East Coast, Canada) until mid May.

Yep, snow here, too. Beautiful big fluffy flakes that sank temp as they floated to the ground.

We're starting to get emerging buds. Some of the Apricot trees are actually blooming. We got a 'spring weed 'n' feed from the spray outfit Friday. A friend brought over a 'bouquet' of cherry tree branch trimmings with buds all over them, along with some daffodils from her garden. She's raising 3 adopted kids from Japan. They're in high school now, and she's learning Japanese caligraphy. She included a card with the Japanese characters for 'Flower Viewing'. Hanami in Japanese.

I'll repost another image here after the cherry blossoms bloom. It should be just a few days. After all, what else are we all doing?
