How many other RR members here received the survey by e-mail concerning their new membership idea? Silver, Platinum & whatever memberships, for fees.

Your thoughts? I'll reserve mine, for now..

I received mine last week. I did take the time to respond, however for any owner who has been with the Royals very long, I would think that there was no value to their plan. I could see no possible benefit to me. The whole points thing seemed to be a waste. I'm not inclined to fly 3,000 miles for a short stay plan. I think we need an entire shake up of our current management. I think they are coming up with more bad ideas than good. If they keep current members exempt from all these schemes, that would be the only plus I see. I personally voted that I would not want to discuss any plan with a representitive if asked.

My .02 worth.

Agree on all of your points.

My first reaction to this survey was dismay and sheer disappointment. I was literally shaking my head in disbelief reading this survey. Isn't the Royal Resorts management overdue for some creative, good ideas??

RR management, if you're following this, here are just two very easy ones for you to try:

1. Admit the AI thing was a mistake, and drop it.
2. Reduce the prices of drinks and restaurant prices to reflect value for this region.

I must admit, I was speed reading a large percentage of this, fast forwarding to answer the "do not want to discuss plan with RR rep", because they lost me very quickly after identifying the details of their plan. To quote Neidermeyer, these concepts are pathetic and weak. :annoyed:

"Reduce the prices of drinks and restaurant prices to reflect value for this region."

Amen. Just some good old fashioned economics would do the trick.
I'd use the restaurants more if prices were inline with their costs.
I don't know why they do not see the correlation to higher prices and less revenue in the restaurants. The money they waste preparing all the "buffet" meals" would be better served on better quality single meals at a fair price. Not all americans overindulge at meal time!

Amen to that!

When I bought at the Royal Sands 10 years ago, the prices were good and the food was too!

The breakfast buffet is a nice indulgence a $10, but $17 plus tip?? Ridiculous.

The portions are smaller....the prices are higher. I used to love the grouper sandwich, but last year the portion of fish was miniscule. You were eating at least half the bun with no fish. We now eat breakfast and many lunches on our balcony, and almost never have dinner at the resort. Too many excellent choices out there.

If the food and beverages are upgraded in portion and taste at reasonable cost, the venues at the resort will be better patronized.

This interesting to me because when I spoke to my concierge a couple of weeks ago he mentioned a new points system that the host would tell me about if I agreed to meet. I did not meet with that particular host, but spoke to a different one the second week. Their response to my question about a new "points" program was "Who told you that?" My first thought was to reply "Who's on first?" But, I declined.

In any event I have not received this particular survey, although I have a couple of In Search of Excellence surveys to complete.

While we were still at the RI we got the In Search of Excellence email...what a joke...they give you a link to TripAdvisor so you can beat the drum for the Royal Resorts. Basically, we had a good time BUT we noticed no bottle of cold water when we arrive, prices higher, size of meals smaller, RI pool not heated but RC was, lots of small things around the resort not being taken care of....I would not give them a 10 nor a great review on TA. I think they should spend some of the $$ we pay in mf to replace the faded pictures in the units, get refrigerators that don't sound like the microwave is running constantly and replace the microwaves. Ours sounded like it was going to explode when we used it. Replacing the stoves with modern, flat top ones would be a big step...Going to the Royals is like going to a motel in 1960. We stayed at the Westin Lagunamar one week and it was granite countertops, ice maker in freezer, flattop stove with 4 burner, washer and dryer in the master unit, and the lock off had a washer and dryer, a subzero fridge/freezer w/icemaker and a flattop cooktop with a 2 burner unit. I know the Westin is newer but the RI hasn't changed anything in 9 yrs we've owned it...

Have not received the survey, but would be interested in hearing the details directly when we go to Cancun in 2 weeks.

I've noticed changes over the years; new couches, new rugs, this year new duvets and pillows, new shower curtains, new stove (not smooth top but better than the previous one), microwave and coffee service in the lock off....

Hearing the details directly whenever you can is certainly the way to go, way too much false information on bb's. We've not gotten this survey. Survey recipients were selected at random (like the recent AI one, which my wife got, but I didn't:bawl:). A lively discussion, we all signed confidentiality agreements. I found it interesting & informative. Adios.

Good idea. Just be certain you're speaking directly with management or other person of authority. We learned years ago to bypass the concierges, and other staff for sources of information because their information is too often incorrect with regard to RR operations.

Well, I will finally chime in here.

How many of us remember that the Royal Resorts were like Nirvana, with nothing to complain about, non-owners falling over themselves trading in, and leaving happy.

That was not so long ago, but I think it was about the time when VCI switched over, so that was a 30 year run of success for them.

Surveys - I have not received any in a while.

Shortly after the switch, we noticed a lot of groups coming into VCI through Travelocity, Expedia, etc and paying less for a week than we were paying in maintenance. We requested a meeting with management and they told us it was a glitch and would be rectified. Has that happened??

The manager at that time has moved to one of the Tris, I think, and the current managers is an "oldie but goodie" and easy to communicate with.

How many remember the "survey" about interest in being able to use a week in London, or Argentina??

They have taken a lot away, and we have not gotten anything in exchange -- water bottle on arrival, taco party, members party [which turned into a free for all, with non-members, and lots of kids arriving in their bathing suits].

I own at Sheraton Buganvilias, and unless I am mistaken, members get a discount on drinks and food - maybe 10% or so. We have talked there about trying to support the resort by having drinks or a meal there once in a while.

I don't think they are trying too hard to see VCI units. at first they were tring to get us to go to Haciendas, and if we bought back into VCI it was for a reason. Now they are hopelessly trying to get people to buy the Residences. How long have people been waiting for them to start construction?? It seems like years.

if I am going out for dinner and too lazy to go upstairs to make a sandwich. I often order a kids meal, not for the price but rather for the smaller size. One waiter in the Palapa told me I could not do that. The manager said it was OK.

Maybe more later as I think this out some more, sorry for the rant. I just miss the Good Old Days when were were all happy and proud to share our stories about the Royals.

Yes, I received and completed the survey last week. Maybe the Royal Mayan members were the only ones to receive it? It could possibly be another effort to keep the RM in the Royal family?

Notice that I used question marks because I'm just guessing. These are my guesses, not proven facts.

I received the survey and indicated that I was not interested in any type of points plan. I met with my rep in Cancun last week and asked about it, but she didn't know what I was talking about..then I asked about my residuals at the Mayan. I was referred to a manager who indicated that I would only receive my full residual as equity if I purchased at the Royal Haciendas. Otherwise, I would have to take my chances on the final sale at the Mayan.

RR Survey

We stayed at the RH last week & received the survey. This week we are at the RS. I too have become a little disillusioned with the Royal experience. We have been members for 7 years & when we first started coming down here we were treated like Royalty. It was the little things that made the difference. Receiving bottled water upon arrival & being received with a smiling face. Little things like that! It seems to me on this trip that the culture has changed somewhat with the emphasis being on money & not the member's experience. I learned a long time ago that if you charge someone $20 then it's best to give them a $40 experience & you will be assured of them returning or at the very least talking positively to other people about their experience. The welcome party & taco party this week was held at the new facility that they have tried to push on us ever since we arrived last week. We declined to go!! What a shame as my kids really did enjoy that party. This is my first post & I don't want it to be overly negative but I really do hope that they start to go back to the old style culture & that these resorts remain above & beyond what can be found elsewhere.:bawl:

I have to wonder if those buying into the Grand Residence have done their homework, and considered how this area is undoubtedly going to change with the incoming Dragon Mart. If not, it will be like buying property and building a new home, then learning a new railroad line will be added a stones throw away. Except Dragon Mart will have a much greater impact.

*Occupying 283,600 square meters, the Cancun Dragon Mart will contain a shopping area, warehouses and residential sections.

*5,000-plus Chinese residents that are expected to come with the new development, in the opening wave.

First survey I've received; when I "preferred not to answer" one question I got a message that I was not qualified to respond. apparently they are seeking some serious demographic information. I believe it was regarding household income???
