Thank you for you help

I've been going to La Paloma for 25 years. I actually just submitted a very detailed review for the property, but it hasn't been reviewed yet, I guess, because it isn't showing up in the resort reviews.

Overall, I find La Paloma to be an awesome value. The price is amazing and the maintenance fees are quite low. We NEVER trade it, so can't really comment on the trade value, but I tell you this, if you want to stay in the summer, you have to book 12 months out. It's very popular. The setting is really beautiful and the units are very well maintained.

I have not stayed in the Worldmark units, but I had a friend who briefly owned with Worldmark and she said they were similar, but it has been years since I had the discussion, so I can't really give info on that. Ours is through WIVC.

Living in Southern California, we love that it is a border town because it is a short drive to get there and we bring the house with us.

Feel free to contact me with any other questions.

Jennifer

You confirmed my suspicions . I'm glad I didn't rely on the misinformation posted earlier . I was able to trade into the resort on Friday because we are still 10 months away . We booked a 2-bedroom for the 4 of us .

After doing more research I found out the following :

1. . Only 21 units available and many are 1 bedrooms .
2. My 8 week window is during the Summer School vacation season that already has twice the demand as the rest of the year .
3 . I found very little trading or selling activity .
4. The north pacific Demand has nearly the opposite demand season as the Mexican Carribbean.
5. Although it is considered to be " standard " by Interval International , the reviews I read were very high for this resort .

How much do you think a 2bed summer week would rent for ?

Have fun coming back through the border

I went down to the Rosarita area when The Trump Baja was selling condos. As it turned out, the development went bust despite sellout of the 1st building and the 20% down payments went into someones pocket rather than an escrow account as it was supposed to and now there are multiple lawsuits due to this. A little bit of trouble that the sales were for Mexico but US courts are involved because the company had offices in the US. I suspect the thief got away with the money and no one will get any money back. As it turned out the development, near Rosarita was near some chemical dump. Luckily, I did not like the site and especially the drive back to the states which took me Two hours to cross the border and many others trying to cross the border nearly running my car over so was not interested in buying.
I've been to many parts of Mexico including Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Cancun. I have had good experiences in Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. The last time I went to Cancun I was pulled over for "speeding" when every other car was passing me, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I would have no trouble going back to Cabo or Puerto Vallarta, may consider Cancun if I was "asked" to, but would never drive down to Rosarita again. Just my opinion. I don't care how good a deal I would get. I think the beach stinks(figuratively and literally) there and the drive and return through the border does as well. (Getting in to Mexico takes two seconds, it is getting back that is a pain) When I was there the news said that there were several bodies found on the highway due to drug wars. Have fun in Rosarita.:)

Crossing the border.

It's never fun crossing the border . I've crossed that border dozens of times and sometimes were much worse than others . I spent 17 hours crossing the Laredo border two years ago . Two hours sounds like a cake walk .

I've got two weeks booked in Rosarito and will be crossing at the Tecate border because I will be returning east . Since I will be checking out on a Saturday , there should be less traffic flow going north during the morning hours .

I also got pulled over in Cancun when we visited a few weeks ago . The officer said he was going to take my license and I told him I was ok with that . Later , he repeated the threat to my wife to see if she would react differently. When she told them we were fine with the idea , he returned my license and let us go .

The next day we slowed down a bit on that stretch and a police car passed us with a wave and a smile .

I think the word they use when people try to influence an opinion as fact is called

" Yellow Journalism "

Also , I really don't believe the more expensive the better theory .

There are bargains and values that come and go . Some places are great and don't cost much . Others are expensive and are low quality .

In fact in many cases , high maintenance fees make the timeshare become worthless .

My husband and I go to the La Paloma Rosarito resort often. We are WorldMark owners. It is my husband's favorite resort because we can drive there, and there is plenty of availability. The times that it is difficult to book WM rooms is during winter break and school holidays. Summer seems to be fairly easy as long as you book with enough time. The only difference I have noticed after the drug wars started is that people tend to stay in after dark, and there are a lot more military out on the roads. There are less tourists around because they are generally frightened by the media. Since I am from LA, and I used to work in Watts, I take the same precautions that I do when I lived in LA. I have found lots of great places to visit in Rosarito. I like WM because the maintenance fees are fairly low, and there are a bunch of resorts to visit outside of Rosarito Beach. We also have a San Jose del Cabo resort, and our resorts tend to trade pretty well with II and RCI.

The last time I crossed the border was to visit Puerto Palomas, Chihuahua. There is not much to see at that New Mexican border. We waited for two hours in a single file line to go back to the border. If anyone wants to cross at this border, please walk. No one walks across this border, and everything is walkable. There is no need to have a car and deal with that long line. I can imagine it would take minutes on foot.

If you cross at Tecate, make sure you check out the hours. It closes at certain times. I think Tijuana is 24 hrs.
