We are long time weeks owners, but this is the first year that we've rented our units (instead of using them). Over the past several weeks, I've received payment from two different folks that I've rented my units to. Upon payment, we called and had the reservation changed from my name to their name.
Marriott did so immediately, and sent me a copy of the reservation "in my renter's name"
Today, I called to change another one of my weeks and when they sent the reservation, it was still in my name....but "added" the renter's name (as a guest) to the reservation.
I immediately questioned this and was told that this was "standard procedure" and that the other Marriott reps were incorrect.
I was also told that if I wanted to speak to a supervisor, I could...but they will tell me the same.
As fate would have it, the rep spelled the name incorrectly, so this gave me an opportunity to call back, (to have the spelling corrected). After solving that problem, I re-asked the same question about the reservation and he, (a different rep) told me the same thing. No name change, only add a name.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike - When you forward the confirmation to your guest, you can remove your name, and Marriott Acct. number from the confirmation.

• Open the confirmation email

• Click "forward"

• Highlight and delete your name and Acct. number

• Type in the guest's name

• Forward confirmation to guest as normal

In making reservations for others using my DC points, I have had it happen both ways--sometimes they will only add the renter's name and sometimes they will actually make the reservation in the renter's name. Once when I made the reservation first in my name and then called to change it, they did so by canceling the original reservation number and re-creating a new one solely in the renter's name. Obviously the reps can physically do it several ways, and I have no idea what the official Marriott policy is.

Denise,
Thank you very much for advising how to do that. I'm sure my renter will feel better when he receives it.

However, somehow...I really don't like modifying something that "should have been done by Marriott", simply because I'm the owner and I requested it.
Don't our requests count for anything?

Marriott annoys the heck out of me over things like this. I almost feel sneaky.

My understanding is that some Reps. will take the owners info. off the confirmation, and some won't, so it appears to be optional.

It's YOUR Acct., since it's optional for the Reps., you certainly shouldn't feel sneaky about removing YOUR info., from YOUR confirmation.

Remember - Marriott works for you, not the other way around. ;)

Boca,
I guess it just depends on who you speak to. The last two reps were adamant....
that "this was Marriott's procedure."
Needless to say, the first two reps were very accommodating to my initial requests.
I just don't like having to circumnavigate procedure to get something that I think I'm entitled to.

This year I did a private exchange with another owner. They made a reservation and my name was added to the reservation. I made a reservation and their name was added to the reservation. No alternative was offered.

I have not worried in the least that my renters name was just added to my reservation and that my name still showed.

I just explained to them the reservation was in my name, and made sure they understood the process, that they were entitled to keys when they arrived, and they had my cell number just in case.

In my opinion, it just shows the renter that I have stayed involved with the transaction and am only a phone call away if need be. It's better (IMHO) than removing my name from the forwarded email and then having them perhaps find out upon arriving that the reservation is in my name. Imagine how they would feel if the desk person mentioned to them that I had not arrived yet!

The front desk knows that when you change the name on the reservation - the guest is checking in. They are not going to tell the guest that the owner hasn't checked in yet - that would be truly confusing.

My experience has been that most guests do not like to see anyone's name on the confirmation, except their own, and leaving the owner's name on it, causes confusion. The guest should already have your name, and all your contact info., from the rental agreement or invoice.

I also think it's prudent, to remove the owner's Marriott number.

There's at least one TUGger who specifies in his rental agreements that his MR Number has to remain attached to the reservation because he wants the Elite Nights and MRPoints to be credited to his MR account. That's one reason, I guess, to keep the Owner's name on the reservation with the renter as Guest. (There would be no recourse for him through Marriott if the person renting from him asks the front desk at check-in to change it to his/her MR Number - in fact going strictly by the rules he's not entitled to the credits because he's not staying in the unit - but probably the TUGger would choose to not rent to that person in the future.)
