I’m definitely need to try to understand this upgrade points through RCI deal. Definitely RCI rep has no idea what your talking about as I tried this earlier this month for an exchange in November. There was a studio and a 1 bedroom for the same dates I needed. I assumed I could book the studio and then be upgraded to a 1 bedroom. RCI rep said yes, but they do that at the resort if a larger unit is available. Come on we all know it doesn’t wrk that way right? So what I’m reading in this thread is owner VIPG and higher call Wyndham to deposit points to RCI and at that time ask for an upgrade in points? I’m so very confused on this issue. I know how to deposit to RCI online using the Portal. The whole upgrade thing has me stumped. Also I’m positive Wyndham deposited points to my RCI account in 2019 at end of year that I should not I have available as I was already borrowing points from my 2020 year to make 2019 reservations. Score one for me lol
Yes call. Wyndham and say you want to deposit a studio using the quiet season unit upgrade. That's is 35,000 points. Wyndham will deposit and additional 28,000 points. Do it over again for 35,000 more. Etc till all points are deposited or less than 35,000 remain.

The announcement about the new VIP benefits showed that benefit was missing, along with a couple of others. I talked to someone on the product development team who said it was not used a lot, so they decided to take it away.

The reason it's not used a lot is that Wyndham has made it very difficult to use. It's not possible to get the upgrade online and even calling in, it rarely works.
I've done it multiple times, and I believe it only worked properly twice. The remaining times, even though the VC understood the request, and said that the upgrade would occur, only the original points got deposited. I would end up having to call back and speak with someone in Owner Care to get it fixed.

Looks like my days of depositing to RCI are over. Without this upgrade feature, having to use 126k points for a 1BD in red season and pay a $239 exchange fee is simply not worthwhile.

I hear ya. I avoided RCI because if that fee. I used it maybe once in the 12 years I’ve been an owner. This was the first year where I had points that I couldn’t move forward. I already maxed out in the number of points I can move forward. I own about 1.5 million points and that is how many I moved forward to next year. RCI was my only option for what was left. Luckily it was only about 29,000 points left. I did the quiet season upgrade deposit thing and borrowed some points from next year. If I’m forced to use RCI, at least I can get a few extra points out of it while I can. I don’t expect to have the same problem next year unless some of these trips I have booked don’t work out.

Sorry question off topic. Once you roll your 2020 points forward Into 2021 in the Wyndham system not RCI can you still use those 2021 points to book in 2020 as it is less than 90 days out now? Thank you all.

Thought I'd share that my upgrade on points with RCI finally went through. 11 days and after 2 long calls yesterday. 175k turned into 315K. Makes using RCI worthwhile. Too bad, this benefit is being taken away.

Yes.

Just remember that if you end up making a 2020 reservation that borrows from your 2021 points, you will reduce the amount of the 2021 points eligible for Point Deposit Forward (PDF) into 2022 and/or 2023. That's unless the pandemic continues well into 2021 and Wyndham decides to relax the 2021 PDF limit to include all 2021 Owned / Bonus / PIC / PDF points (they haven't relaxed this for all equivalent 2020 points).

Any 2021 reservations made and not cancelled should first source from the 2020 Points Deposited Forwarded allocation, regardless of whether the 2021 reservation was booked prior to using 2020 Points Deposit Forward into 2021.

My last ones finally went through as well. I did my last two on 11/9 and 11/10.

I'm sad to see that the 35,000 Wyndham points to 63,000 RCI points VIP benefit is gone. I am actually able to use the RCI points more frequently than the Wyndham points this year, so if anyone has extra RCI points that will not be used, I am happy to buy them from you. Just send me a message.
